Matching is correct - all Movies are matched correctly.
I’ve made a video with posters not showing up for two selected Movies
This is a totally random - after server reboot it can the same Movies without posters, can be another Movies without posters (but the first will be with posters) and such carousel is totally random.
Also I can’t attach a poster to a problem (?) Movie - poster will disappear.
I’ve tried to download separate poster .jpg file and attach it - no luck - it will disappear.
Just pulling things out of nowhere, but I’d think it’s a corrupt database. First thing I’d try would be to refresh metadata for one of the movies. If this does not fix it for the movie, then try the “Optimize Database” feature in Settings > Manage > Troubleshooting.
Next thing I’d try, would be to create a new library pointing at your movies. See if the current library is bad, but a new one works fine. It’d suck if you have a lot of custom movie metadata, but it might fix it… At the very least, knowing that it works well in a new library is good information to have. You can delete the new library and it won’t do anything to your old one/
Plex backs up your database , so you might check if there is an older backup and restore that. Backup the most recent copy.
One cause of this is due to the fact that plex scrapes the poster art from multiple online sources, like tmdb.
If you set a poster, background in plex which subsequently then gets deleted from the online source it will then eventually become blank in plex. This is very common as artwork is in a constant state of flux at these online sources.
The process of manually setting the artwork locks it in plex making it blank if deleted.
The artwork will stay on your local machine as long as that bundle is still on disk regardless if the online source is no longer available. When refreshing the metadata, If the artwork is locked the image will remain as-is, when it’s not locked the image will change to a new non-deleted image.
no success. still no posters.
Paying your attention - I have two PMS: PMS for Synology and PMS for Windows (WS 2022) and both PMS has the same problem.
new library named “4k_2”. and it’s getting worse. watch the video https://disk.yandex.ru/i/AHmaHXYKEPuIXg
the new library has only two posters, but the old library has seven.
will try a little later.
but the same problem with two PMS is confusing me.
I agree, the odds of it happening to two separate servers is highly unlikely.
Try rematching the movie. Click the triple dot menu ... on the movie and try to “Fix Match” to see if somehow the movie had gotten unmatched somehow.
I had a movie, Chupa, do that to me last week. The movie was 100% matched and had all the metadata, and the next day it lost its poster, cast (other than one guy, labeled “cafeteria worker”), and description. Rematching that worked for me.
Unfortunately, I have no other suggestions. I wouldn’t know where to go next, other than a full database nuke and reinstall, which is an extreme move.
I ran into a variation of this problem today. I was doing some filebot rename to add some square bracket optional text to my filenames and for some movies the folders and filenames themselves changes. One example… Airplane (1980) {tmdb-813}\Airplane (1980).mp4
became Airplane! (1980) {tmdb-813}\Airplane! (1980).mp4
Upon a metadata scan and refresh I then got this for any movies which changed the top level movie folder …
I also have Airplane! (1980) {tmdb-813}\fanart.jpg and Airplane! (1980) {tmdb-813}\fanart.jpg within my movie folders. Enable verbose log I can see these in the Plex Media Scanner Matcher.log found fine but they are never loaded.

Attempted doing server restart, clean-out of server cache, clear bundles etc… and no matter how many force refresh I do both the poster and background remained blank.
Found two workarounds:
edit the movie in question using the plex ui and select the poster and background tabs and then cancel to close the dialog. Then force refresh the metadata. The local assets then load.
rename fanart.jpg and poster.jpg to some dummy filenames afanart.jpg and aposter.jpg. Force refresh the movie and the default plex ones will load. Then rename the local assets back to fanart.jpg and poster.jpg and again force refresh. The local assets then load.
It appears from these tests that when plex remaps a movie after a rename that the local assets get messed up.
Got exactly same problem over a year.
Tried repairng database, several reinstalls, other advices from here and reddit - nothing works.
Posters keeps missing till complete wipe.
I dunno what to do.
PMS running on win10.
Does workaround #1 above work for you ? I suspect it may but would be a good data point to know if it does or not.
Assuming you have a good plex naming of your media do you have Use local assets enabled on your movie library ? Regardless, as a test would you be willing to change this setting to the opposite of what you have now and then force refreshing the metadata of the library. Once complete then change this setting back and force refreshing again. Shot in the dark but based on my experiences over the weekend and the solutions I posted above for my situation I suspect this may help.
