Yes server was stopped, then started and logs captured after 2 minutes like the way you have stated in other thread as well as here. When I searched for “404” in the Plex Media Server.log file I found this:
Oct 05, 2020 20:44:14.710 [13823] ERROR - CERT: Could not fetch certificate from the cloud: 404
This is the first time I’m doing this so let me know if I need to do it again. Plex Server is on Nvidia Shield called msmedia. Version is the latest one (updated just yesterday). Manual port forwading setup. Local access is working but remote access isn’t.
Server has been stopped now so that you can reset it.
Do you have a “Preferences.xml” file in Windows? I know a lot of PMS info is in the registry (I’m a Linux guy – No Windows systems here at all).
If you do, I need you to edit that Preferences.xml file and turn DEBUG logging back on . Without it, I can’t help. there is no information to go on,
What I need is this
- With Plex stopped
- Open Preferences.xml
- On the last line, before the closing
/>addlogDebug="1" - It will look like
logDebug="1" /> - Now start Plex.
This manual change turns debug logging back on so we can see what it’s doing and get you to a solved / restored state
Restart the server. I am crossing my fingers and hoping a blind reset will fix your machine
Thanks - updated as per the path here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/. Not sure why the settings in the localhost didn’t save that change. Anyway, here’s the logs with logDebug=1. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-10-05_11-27-42.zip (1.2 MB)
restart now. before it times out
in progress
I see a new certificate has been issued
Restarted - looks like things are working at the moment. Running some additional tests (here the new logs in case Plex Media Server Logs_2020-10-05_11-28-48.zip (1.2 MB) )
Update: seems to be working now on app.plex.tv as well. Had to clear cache though in the browser for it to update for some reason.
I need go help others. If there are major issues, please post up the logs and say what’s still not working.
Thank you so much!
Seems to be working for me now. Will have to check in again tomorrow to see if my fiancé is able to remote access or not. This helps us a lot. Much appreciated!
Hey @ChuckPa
I am having the same issue as most people right now, with the plex insecure error. I would like to ask if you can help.
I am running Plex inside docker on top of OpenMediaVault.
I have attached my logs in this message, turned off my plex container and synced the time. Can you do your part now with the certificate fix?
Thanks in advance for the help
Restart the server.
Cert reset.
I have stopped the plex container, should I also shutdown the server itself?
Start it up… all good to go
Many thanks for the help ChuckPa, it works! Have a good evening
Btw, it is not possible to get a certificate on the local network right, because it is not running trough a domain nor the official plex site?
I have local domain but also went through all the steps to establish one, get a certificate for it, then add it to PMS.
I can run my local LAN as full HTTPS by FQDN because my edge modem/router (pfSense) is my domain authority,
Ahh, okay! Thanks :D.
I am have the same issues as everyone else. I am able to work on the server, but any devices on the network and outside of the network will not show my content unless i either 1. Sign out and sign back in or 2. Change profiles and go back to profile. Remote Access is showing its not connected, I have checked all network settings and nothing has changed. It sounds like you have solved the issue, can you assist me please.
Do your logs show the common “404” errors when PMS restarts?
If so, then you are also experiencing the problem which I can assist with here.
