Some TV episodes are skipping when in Chrome. Firefox, VLC and others play fine

This happened with only one movie out of hundreds added to Synology and playing back in Plex via Chrome. Now I added several new episodes from a new series I just got and some are doing the same thing as the one movie did when playing back in Chrome. Using Plex on Firefox, or VLC for example, and they play fine (as did the one movie).

I have checked Chrome settings and graphics is enabled. I have also moved the episodes to a folder Plex doesn’t scan. Then scan the library. Then do “Empty Trash, Optimize database and Clean Bundles”. I then add the episode(s) back and scan the library yet again. Same problem.

Why this only happens in Chrome I can’t figure out. I posted this issue with the movie many weeks ago and did get some good feedback but nothing solved the riddle of that one movie. But now some of the episodes are doing the same thing?

A point to make: The latest episodes are in Blu Ray. I was actually replacing the DVD episodes I already had added and was just wanting to improve the quality by replacing the DVDs with the Blu Rays. But I followed the steps as outlined above so this shouldn’t be an issue.

When playing back on m Roku, Apple TV or iPad, the episodes that are skipping in Chrome, are playing fine. Not a major deal obviously but I sure would like to figure out what Chrome is doing (or not doing). Again, Firefox playback is fine for an episode(s) that skips in Chrome.

I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Try opening an incognito window and using it for playback.

See if , with all plug-ins disabled, it plays normally.

I opened and logged into my Plex with incognito mode. I did not do step two in your reply just to see how it would play. It still skips. I then went to Privacy and Security / Content Settings. Here is what settings were when I checked:

Third party cookies is in blocked mode already.
Sites can use Java script is enabled.
Sites can show images
And don’t allow popups and redirects is set.

I disabled java script but then Plex only opened with the logo splash Java was the only one that is enabled.

Any other thoughts?

Much appreciated!

This is the important part - Determine whether one of the plug-ins is interfering with Chrome or not.

If the same video plays in FireFox and elsewhere, it must be that specific browser instance.

So good to hear from you as always!

Did what I provided sound like they are disabled? The only one I saw enabled was the Java script which, when I disabled it, would not launch Plex beyond the logo on screen.

Should I allow popups and third party cookies? They were disabled prior to checking. Perhaps I need to look in more than one area for Chrome? I would appreciate guidance on where to look if so. Chrome changes and feedback online show different looks because of Google versions (year isn’t 2024 for example so feedback on where to look is different than my google). I did just update Chrome. And disabled java script with Plex already open but the episode(s) still skipped. Interestingly, I added several episodes (DVD) from a new series I bought and those are not skipping. But I’ve added many blu ray episodes without any issue.

Sure would like to figure this out. As it plays fine on my Apple TV device, Roku, iPad or iPhone, as well as Firefox it’s not a must-fix thing, but it’s bothersome. Something I have set (or not set) in Chrome is the issue as you point out.

Thanks so much!

When you disable JavaScript, you kill the web page completely.

You need the core javascript enabled but the extra plug-ins/extensions you have added to be disabled.

If you’ve not added anything then that’s part of the battle.

The next step, which incognito handles, is being anonymous and all cookies disabled as well.

Yes, it’s a bit of a pain but we get to see if the bare-bones browser works.

Hello,

I looked on the Plex forums and did google search and reviewed Plex articles on this but am not finding what I need.

I know how to add someone to my Plex to give them library access should I want to. I know where to look at my watch history in the dashboard along with someone I would give access to.

My challenge is that a friend I gave access to lost their information I sent to them to access. I have their name in the account with library access. I have only done this once and it’s very limited access for them. Regardless, I see their name and folders I have given them access to. But I don’t see anywhere how I can edit the name to see the email or whatever I used to give them access.

I’m sorry sorry to ask but what am I missing? Should I just delete their name and start over?

I hope all is well. Thank you again so much for everything you did to help me.

This hasn’t been my day. I just ripped a new blu ray movie and after adding it to Syn and then playing it in Plex, the video skipped in places, just like before. I somehow figured this out back in June but my archiving has failed me again. I can’t find any notes on what I did. It was only a couple times it happened and I figured it out with help. But the closest I could come was to disable graphics accelerator in Chrome settings and then hit refresh. I tried that but it still skips. But I think that might have been related to recording my screen videos?

I get so mad at myself. I usually always archive things so I remember what I did and what to do. So anyway, it appears that this issue has popped up again. I can’t imagine it had anything to do with enabling the Quick Connect in Syn.

Do you recall or have any other input? I did try going in incognito mode but that didn’t change things.
