Same issue here also. Using mkv files with .sub files after about 3 to 6 lines of subtitles they stop. I restart video and reselect the subtitles and works again for 3 to 6 lines. Plex…hello? Needs to be fixed asap! Thank you
I can’t believe his is still an issue in 2019. I left Plex some some time ago because of issues like this but returned for the convenience but this really is an important issue that constantly raises it’s head and make plex unusable for any media with subtitles or short spells of foreign language. It ruins the experience to have to muck around with the system while it’s playing to get dialogue subtitles working only to find they turn off almost immediately.
Same issue here on Chrome with latest server update. This is pretty bad
Okay, glad it’s not just me. Surprised to see this as still an issue almost two years after it was first reported.
how on earth is this STILL an issue? i don’t think they ever intend to fix this.
Same for me, too. Server 1.16.2.1321 running on Windows 10 and this occurs on pretty much every playback device.
I just got this problem as well now.
Tried different browsers, latest Plex, still the same. Play video in Media Player Classic, no problem.
damn… this is an old one…
Oddly enough this only started happening for me a while back. I can get them showing again for a short time by skipping back (10sec jump) but after a while they stop showing again.
There’s also no consistency, it happens both with internal/external subtitles and also not always. It’s a bit of a hit or miss, it doesn’t happen with all media files (all are MKV containers ).
Windows 10
Media Server 1.16.3.1402
Web Client 3.104.2
I can confirm I have the same issue on Plex for Samsung, latest version.
Subtitles stop working after a while.
Hey guys, we are coming up empty when trying to reproduce this pesky issue in-house (even when trying to use similar setups reported by users in this thread). Does anyone have a reliable process to reproduce this consistently using the hosted Plex Web app and latest public PMS? if so can you provide a sample of the media, and detailed steps that result in the issue occurring?
I have same problem.
[Server]
Ubuntu 18 / plex version 1.16.3.1402
[Client]
LGOLEDE8 / Windows 10 Chrome
This issue occurs very randomly.
I also have this problem just started using plex. Will try to find a pattern.
I just started to notice this bug about 3 versions ago. I rely heavily on subtitles so this is close to a deal breaker. In XBMC/Kodi, this has worked flawlessly for over 10 years and I still shake my head at why Plex is still failing in this regards.
Browser: Chrome 75.0.3770.142 64-bit
Client OS: Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit
Server OS: Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit
Plex Server Version: 1.16.3.1402
I am also experiencing this. Definitely seems to be tied to mkv files. I’ve noticed it on specifically files that have the chapter bookmarks. Maybe it’s an issue with the embedded data somehow? I’m using external subtitles downloaded with the Plex subtitle search function.
Hi
I’m experiencing the same. Plex app running on Samsung 4K TV. After couple of minutes, subtitles disappear. I need to stop and start the movie.
Pleas team, this is very annoying. I bought lifetime pass. Could you please try to reproduce and fix this bug?
Just started occurring for me on all clients and all file types. Subtitles randomly stop after about 30 mins
I very rarely (if ever) use subtittles, but just now I started watching Luther, and its quiet in places even with volume maxed, so I’ve switched on subtittles…only to find the same issue as everyone else in this thread =/
Seems only to happen in the web player for me.
Subtitles work for some time and suddently just dissappears. Reselecting makes it come back again after a reload of the video.
Hard to provide exact steps to reproduce!
With PGS Subtitles i never had any issues - so only related to SRT
