Since upgrading from 1.14, Plex uses 3GB to 6GB of RAM at idle (“Sleep” in resource Monitor). No activity shown on Plex dashboard. I removed the entire DVR setup as a test and it had no effect. I have two TV libraries and a movie library so it shouldn’t be working that hard. Memory leak?
How much memory is in the system?
There is a known bug with what appears to be DVR XML EPG.
The known memory leak issue is being researched on desktop Linux systems where shell scripting is easier.
I would recommend verifying if that does improve it for you.
So far, we have seen the memory consumption spikes happen when EPG updates.
Without EPG, memory usage seems stable.
Having a similar issue here. Most evenings, the Plex service (1.15.5.994 currently) is stopped by the QNAP due to excess memory usage (NAS is a QNAP TS853A with 8GB RAM). This never occurred prior to 1.15. Now the SiliconDust ‘Premium TV’ disaster is done I’m looking to move back to Plex and finding it very unstable.
QNAP appears to kill “Plex Transcoder” due to running of of memory - then immediately afterwards is ‘disables’ “PlexMediaServer” “to free up system memory”.
Next time I have it occur I’ll try and get logs. Are there any particular logs I should get?
I’ve actually downgraded my PMS installation to 1.14 on my qnap mainly because the problems I’m seeing on getting live channel feeds from my hdhomerun prime boxes. now I can actually select the channel on the Plex grid and it will load and play whereas on version 1.15 it would time out and display an error message.
com.plexapp.system.log didn’t log anything. Normal operations just ceased prior to Plex shutting down - and resumed when I restarted it. I’m not comfortable posting all logs sine all but one had zero events around the event.
There is only ONE of the log files that contained any data around the time of the shutdown (attached). None of the others contain any events within an hour of the event…
Lot’s of hdhomerun activity - although one of the hdhomerun devices (131CC453) referenced is no longer configured on my system so I’m not sure why it’s trying to talk to it… Could it be the continual attempts to keeps trying to connect to a now retired hdhomerun are causing a memory leak?
I’m going to be away for a week or so, but will restart Plex (again - it stopped a few days ago after I left even with the latest version) and see if I can get more logs. Meanwhile, I have a competitive product recording my live TV but really want to move my tuners back to Plex when this issue is solved.
I’ve actually just seen that 1.15.8.1198 is being offered. Are there any fixes in this that may help this issue? I’m pulling it now, but it will take a while over satellite internet…
