Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

Don’t do this in DSM 7 – You’ll break the ACLs (which is how DSM 7 works).

If you want that – ok but it’s on you. “You own it” :sunglasses:

About the adapters… just bond them. You get 1 adapter on the subnet without the dangler.

I don’t care about the double NAT. I am more concerned about multiple adapters with DSM & Plex.

Dude…you rock! Network adapters bonded.

Still having issues with my 2021 photos. More specifically, none of the December 2021 photos load. I have a feeling we are in ACLs from hell (err…microsoft). Have been bashing my head around and even gave ‘plexmediaserver’ // ‘plex’ user ownership & full control.

Any suggestions? Attached debug log for your reference.

Best,

Andrew

  1. Plex.tv is having authentication problems right now. I see the errors in your logs

  1. Please turn DEBUG logging back on so I can see what else is happening. (DEBUG is the default) Don’t want VERBOSE because that’s too much.

PS: Plex.tv is up… slow but up

Hmm…that’s weird debug logging was on. Try these fresh new logs. 2021-12 photos are definitely accessible via smb on windows 11 pc (my computer). Not sure what kind of ACL/permissions rabbit hole is going on with Plex application not being able to see/access them. Specifically when I grant ownership permissions to the ‘plex’ and ‘plexmediaserver’ user. Hope this helps!

Best,

Andrew

andrew,

I’ve since learned there was an outage at plex.tv. This is the reason for the 502 error.

As for photo tagging. That’s the daily quote limit .

Thanks! Systems Internal User on my share. It also created a Plex Media Server volume that I checked off the same. Below is the server opening address.

http://“my NAS IP address”.my user name.direct.quickconnect.to:32400/web/index.html#!/get-plex-media-server

Incorrect.

Do not use the domain name .

Use the actual numeric LAN address of your Synology.

http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web (substitute appropriately)

Thank you! Up and running. Strange that the app defaulted to the url rather than the direct IP you sent. I appreciate your help!

That’s DSM 7 … One of the “Wondrous Features” we get to enjoy for free :roll_eyes:

:rofl:

G’Day

I have weird things happening and I need some guidance.

I have upgraded my Synology 920+ to DSM 7.0.1-42218. I followed the instructions in one of these threads, to the letter, i.e. changing the share and user to PlexMediaServer, etc.

When I installed Plex, it created a new share called “Plex” and a user called “Plex”. I uninstalled, changed names back to Plex and tried to re-install, and then it created a share called PlexMediaServer.

After going back and forth several times, I deleted all shares and users related to Plex. Nothing seemed to make this work.

I have moved all my media and a back-up of the library files to another share.

I tried installing a clean version of Plex (PlexMediaServer-1.25.2.5319-c43dc0277-x86_64_DSM7.spk) and allowing Plex to create shares and users as it chose to do in the installation process.

In all cases, when I run Plex, I get the splash screen, the spinning wheel, and then a screen which simply states: “Not Authorized - You do not have access to this server”.

How can I beat this into submission to get Plex running? I can then copy the media and library back-up and finalise the install.

TIA

Nothing in DSM 7 creates Plex.

Are you opening the server by it’s LAN IP address (http://lan.ip.of.syno:32400/web) or are you using the QuickConntect.to link? (you can’t user the link)

For the first part, I delete all Plex shares and users, install Plex in the Package Centre and then it creates the PlexMediaServer share for me and installs in that share.

Then I run Plex from the Package Centre, the web browser opens a new tab and Plex runs (is displayed) in that new tab. That is when it says that I am not authorized to have access to the server.

How do I get access?

Are you using 1.21.0.3744 or the Manual Install of the version from Plex.tv/downloads?

Hi there -

I recently upgraded to DSM 7. My current problem is that my Plex server is back up and running but my libraries are missing.

Here are the steps I followed:

  1. Upgraded to DSM 7
  2. Uninstalled Plex from Package Center (which I realize I should have done before the DSM7 upgrade)
  3. Downloaded the latest Plex Media Server from Plex.tv/downloads
  4. Performed a manual install of Plex
  5. Gave the Plex Media Server user Full Control to folders Plex and my media shared folder.
  6. Uninstalled Plex from Package Center w/ “Uninstall Only”
  7. Reinstalled Plex (manual install)
  8. Attempted to access Plex via http://{my domain name}:32400/web" and received “You do not have permission to access this server”
  9. Used http://{my NAS IP}:32400/web" which then guided me through a few welcome prompts and let me into the server.
  10. But the server has no libraries.

I was unable to find the migration.log file so I am worried that no migration actually took place. I am afraid if I go uninstalling/reinstalling I’ll make things worse.

Thanks for helping.

I just notice that my steps caused a second sever to appear on my Plex application sidebar. One server as the name of my NAS and contains no libraries. The second server is correctly named for my Plex server but it as no connection.

@randofuhs

If you get one which is your server (probably shows as offline),
and a new one (name of your NAS) which is empty –

  1. You got a rogue installation.
  2. Did you click “Repair” when you upgraded to DSM 7 with the Plex app still installed?

@ChuckPa - I did not click “Repair” after the upgrade to DSM. Thanks for helping. It means a lot to me

@randofuhs

Please tell me which version you have installed.

Also please tell me if you still have Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server . You should still have this.

If you have a version higher than 1.24.2.4974 AND have your metadata in the Plex share, this is easily corrected.

@ChuckPa

My installed version is 1.25.2.5319-7000.

I still have have Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server, which contains a series of folders and Preferences.xml

Thanks!

@randofuhs

Uninstall the package, chose the “ERASE” option.
– This removes the errant DSM 7 files

Install the package again.

It will start the migration process – giving you instructions in the popups
(it will tell you which steps to take for “PlexMediaServer” to have permission.
