Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

I wish folks would ask before nuking their installations.

You do NOT need admin enabled to migrate.

The documentation and procedure exists. You only need be an Administrator on the box.

Scroll down and see the Migration Instructions.

What are the LAN IP addresses involved.

Migrating from DSM 6 → DSM 7 makes no changes to your PMS other than moving the files to the new storage location. All credentials remain unchanged (Preferences.xml)

This sounds like the server didn’t start

Do you have a ā€œPlexMediaServerā€ shared folder ?

if so, go into it , find the ā€œLogsā€ directory, make a ZIP of that directory and attach it here please

@ChuckPa - Thank you, sir. Looks like I’m back up and running. I really appreciate your responsiveness.

Figured out the issue (finally)! Plex cannot natively convert some .HEIC photos. The best way is to have your iPhone take .JPG or other universal format. Not sure why, but that’s definitely the case for me.

@ChuckPa any recommendations from development on this? Thanks for all of your help troubleshooting the past several days, I really appreciate it!

Best,

Andrew

Plex Media Server.zip (341.9 KB)
Zip file attached.

Logs.zip (6.1 MB)
This one is the entire logs folder. Previous was just the server log file .

@corpserv_gmail_com

Thank you for that ZIP.

Did you delete all the older, rollover logs?

May I have them please?

I only see a device on your LAN being obnoxious which won’t impact this whatsoever

I replaced the drives and started over hoping that would clear the problem. I only reached out after that failed so this is all the log data I have.

Hi all,
So I am moving from a QNAP 453Be to a Synology DS1520+. My first job is to move my Plex server from the QNAP to Synology. While I am very familiar with QTS, I am not at all familiar with Synology DSM.

After reading this thread, it seems like DSM 7 has some issues. Is this going to be straight forward with setting up a fresh Plex server on DSM 7(simply install the spk and point to the shares) or is there other things I need to do to get it working? The Plex server on the QNAP was pretty straight forward, just install qpkg and add the shares that had the movies/TV shows in them.

Thanks

Hello! I’m doing a fresh install on a new 920+ and I cant get PLEX running at all. I have been running plex flawlessly on a 214+ for years with no problems even when going from dsm6 to dsm7. But for some reason I cant get it to work now.

So to be clear I’m not doing an upgrade or moving install from an older NAS, it’s a completely new install. I download the latest Plex install (PlexMediaServer-1.25.2.5319-c43dc0277-x86_64_DSM7) and I have then tried to do both a ā€œnormalā€ install and a install with ā€œplex tokenā€. If I do a nomrmal install and then open the Plex app through the NAS interface I get a ā€œYour not authorised to this serverā€. When i log in to Plex through plex web site I cant find the NAS as a server under authorized units. If I install with token I still recieve the ā€œYour not authorised to this serverā€ but the nas gets added to the ā€œauthorized unitsā€. None of the install options get me to the greeting page where im supposed to name the new server and point to my media folder.

What could be wrong?

Cheers/ Chris

  1. In Package Center, for the Plex app, does it show the IP address of your NAS or a Quick Connect URL? If it shows a URL, do not use it to claim/setup. Manually type the IP address of your Synology instead.

  2. If using IP addresses, are you both on the same RFC-1918 subnet ?

  3. If you are using FQDN or app.plex.tv, use the IP address of your NAS instead.

Hello, thank you for replying so fast!

Yes the ip is used whenever I’m accessing the nas, I’m on the same network. It’s a small home network. I’m not accessing the nas or Plex by quick connect only ip.

Cheers/ Chris

Before we make it update its credentials,

Try opening it via an Incognito Window. It might be sitting there unclaimed whereas your Plex/web account is signed in.

I have already tried different browsers and also a incognito window in chrome. No success

one last thing to check.

Please go into the PlexMediaServer directory, navigate down to ā€œLogsā€ , make a ZIP file of the Logs directory and attach.

I would like to confirm everything is working ok and only authentication is a problem

Logs.zip (143.7 KB)

You are accessing it from a WAN IP. This will not work for claiming.

You must be on the same subnet

Are you remote?

very strange, Im on the same network. my computer ip 100.120.10.3 and nas 100.120.10.38

I’m sorry. I must amend my post.

You are not using RFC-1918 LAN addressing.

This must be 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x

Plex uses the RFC

what you are showing me is that your Synology has your CGNAT address.
