Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

After spending an entire day trying to get a Plex install on a Synology DS1019+ NAS running DSM 7.1-42661 Update 2 fixed, I’ve decided to start from scratch. I’ve done a fresh install of the DSM software to give a clean base and the PMS installation process seems to run fine, but I do not see any configuration options nor is the server listed when I go to the web based configuration UI.

It seems to me that reinstalling DSM and PMS should’ve done the trick, but If there is anything else that I need to do to wipe out any prior configuration or special instructions that I need to follow, I’d appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

EDIT: I also removed the PlexMediaServer shared folder as part of my process to start from scratch.

@BawdyMonkey

Did you force-restart the browser app (Control+F5) so it forgets the old (now deleted) server info? (it will cache it until it’s forcibly reloaded)

Also – confirm you and the syno are on the same subnet, and you’re opening it for setup using the LAN IP address (not QuickConnect)

@ChuckPa

Yes, I’ve tried Ctrl+F5.

Yes, they’re on the same subnet and I’m using the LAN IP address.

EDIT: I noticed the following on the Plex Web General settings page: " Any Plex Web settings and customization made in this Plex Web instance will not be synchronized with other Plex Web instances. This is because we have detected you have previously saved settings from a newer version of Plex Web."

Is there somewhere else besides the Plex Media Server shared folder that PMS stores files? The mention of settings saved from a newer version of Plex Web would point to outdated files tucked away somewhere that aren’t getting cleared out.

Those would be in the browser’s cache / tokens.

Have you looked there and deleted anything ‘Plex’ ?

EDIT: An incognito window will work the same as clearing out the tokens.

@ChuckPa

It shouldn’t be the browser’s cache. I’ve used Ctrl-F5 to force a refresh and I’ve tried on two different computers.

Try it with an incognito. If that fails, I’ll write up the “PlexClaimToken” method for you

Followup (forgot I had this already in the FAQ)

@ChuckPa

I just tried it incognito in a completely different browser. Nothing seems to be pointing to it being an issue with cached files within the browser.

If you are referring to using a Plex claim token during the setup to claim the server, I’ve already tried that and it’s showing up under my Authorized Devices. The problem is that it isn’t showing up in the Settings sidebar to allow me to configure.

I’m sending you a PM.

Please watch for it.

Hi @ChuckPa ,

Plex is working perfectly but the last version I can update is the PlexMediaServer-1.25.9.5721-965587f64-x86_64_DSM7

I have tried many of the release after and always as the same issue. Plex can’t connect to my libraries…

If I go manually to make a new library or update an old one I can access to the server volume1/…/…

Plex is scanning the files but no access…

It is really weird and I am wondering from where can come the issue

Any help?

Thanks in advance

I just have to re install PlexMediaServer-1.25.9.5721-965587f64-x86_64_DSM7 and it is working again…

If you’re making a new library section and PlexMediaServer cannot see the contents of the new shared folder, did you remember to go to Control Panel - Shared Folder - EDIT the shared folder - Permission tab – and give PlexMediaServer permission to read the shared folder ?

Hi @ChuckPa ,

First thanks for your quick reply.

Sorry, English is not my mother tong, and I have been not enough cleared in my message.

what I was saying is with server version PlexMediaServer-1.25.9.5721-965587f64-x86_64_DSM7 it is working PERFECTLY.

If I update the server with any of the new version, it is not working anymore…

But what is really strange is that with none working newer version I have no problem to find and add any folder in volume1… but then not working. Server is even updated meta but when I go to any players, it is mentioned that can’t read…

it is something that has been updated after PlexMediaServer-1.25.9.5721-965587f64-x86_64_DSM7 that probably change something in permission…

Server can access / Players can’t

All my folders used in Plex have permission for Plex R/W

Thanks in advance

Do you have any of these log files so I can see what the problem is?
If you do not, may I ask you to take a few minutes and create one for me?

I do not understand how PMS 1.25.9 can read files but anything newer cannot.

I have not changed how PMS runs on Synology since version 1.24.2.4973

Ok I will look how to make a log file

Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (lower left corner of Plex web) - Download Logs.

It will give you a ZIP file

I have uninstalled all

As soon as I have installed again 1.25.9 I send you the log, then I will update and send you the log

OK, I will be here.

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-07-23_20-50-39.zip (5.5 MB)
25.9

no need to give you the new one, now it s working…

I have re installed all maybe some indexation issue …

Thanks

:+1: Glad you got it
