Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

I will certainly give everything a try.
Thank you for your input!

Alright, so I cleared cookies and uninstalled and reinstalled with claim code. It doesn’t say it’s unauthorized. It now say “add your media” and to click “get Plex media server” download page.

I believe I found the logs, but I didn’t see anything.
Processing: com.plexapp.agents.fanarttv (1).log

And oddly enough the devices I have linked to the syno, the content works just fine. I can watch TV shows and movies.!

@jmsoren5

May I see the logs please?

Well I’m drawing a blank on finding the logs. Could I get some help?

If PMS is running and you have access Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs

If not,

  1. Stop Plex
  2. FileStation: Navigate to PlexMediaServer → AppData → Plex Media Server
  3. Right-Click Logs → Compress to Logs.zip
  4. When done, Download to your computer
  5. Upload here

Logs.zip (2.0 MB)

Okay, Thanks!
Hopefully this works!

So I noticed somethings strange when moving between the admin account (which is the one I use the most, has a pin set so family members dont delete movies on purpose or accident). and the other family accounts family accounts have restristions etc. well under the admin account it says to add your media. but under a different account, its like nothing has happened, all media is in place and acts normal.

Maybe this sheds some more light or it complicates things more.

Thanks

Thanks.

I have one immediate recommendation for you.

Notice you have two network adapters active on the same network?

Sep 06, 2022 04:47:48.017 [0x7f12732761c0] DEBUG - Creating NetworkServices singleton.

The primary for the NAS is eth0 but PMS found eth1.

This will cause confusion.

Recommendation -

  1. Control Panel - Network - Network Interfaces
  2. Create a BOND adapter using both eth0 and eth1.
  3. Initially, you’ll get 192.168.106.5 as the network address.
    Manually change it if you need to.
  4. Verify the new BOND adapter has a proper network gateway IP and DNS IP.
  5. Now restart Plex and refresh your browser & apps’ connections to the Syno.

This will get you started

Other option: Simply unplug one of the ethernet cables (the one you don’t need)

What happens on these:

  1. DSM will flip-flip between both because, by TCP-IP rules, they are equal.
  2. PMS is favoring eth1 (it found that to be the primary because of DSM’s flip-flop.
  3. PMS sees this flip flop too and gets confused on the source & destination IP.
  4. It gets cautious and raises the error.

Let me know your progress.

Well you have a real gift! I bonded the network, restarted Plex and syno. Opened plexed and everything under the admin account was there!

Thank you so much! I think you need a new username
! Something with wizard or warlord, something/one almighty and powerful! Because I can present an issue and you have a solution on how to fix it!

Anyways sorry,

And Very Big Thanks!

Hello,

I am having an issue with my Plex after I run it on Synology. I claimed the server, that’s all fine but I cannot open Plex using that given URL from the NAS. It doesn’t matter if I use http://ip-address:32400/web or http://ip-address:32400/manage or the same combination but with https instead, I just won’t get in

Is there any solution to this, please?

@ScoRch1

Please share more info / show a screenshot of what you do get ?

“I just won’t get in” isn’t very helpful.

Manually making a ZIP of the PMS Logs folder and attaching it is also very helpful.

How should I take PMS logs if I can’t connect to the server?

Also, here is the version of my DSM - 7.1-42661 Update 4
Plex installed manually using the latest version PlexMediaServer-1.29.0.6209-9fa696df6-x86_64_DSM7.spk

When I want to open PMS from NAS it just says the site can’t be reached.
The URL it gives me is http://192-168-1-18..direct.quickconnect.to:32400/web

image

@ScoRch1

  1. Stop Plex (if it’s running)
  2. Open FileStation
  3. Navigate: PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  4. Right-click Logs → Compress to Logs.zip
  5. Download that ZIP file to your computer
  6. Upload here with your next reply

I see you’re using QuickConnect. Don’t do that right now. Quick connect causes a LOT of problems when the machine isn’t properly claimed.

Use the LAN IP only. http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web

^^ Try this first please

Hi @ChuckPa

have you checked the logs please?
Connecting to PMS using LAN IP does not work at all, the site cannot be reached
Logs.zip (2.0 MB)

@ScoRch1

PMS is configuring itself and is ready

Do not use the QuickConnect link.

Open it directly by LAN IP. http://192.168.1.18:32400/web

Quick Connect cannot be used on DSM 7 until after the server is claimed.

To confirm, your computer’s IP address is 192.168.1.x ?

@ChuckPa

Yes, my PC’s IP address is 192.168.1.x and 192.168.1.18 is my NAS.
And it won’t open when I tried that IP address.
It worked perfectly fine for some time after I updated DSM from v6 to v7 and then it suddenly stopped working
QuickConnect is turned off

@ScoRch1

Please do the following:

  1. Restart PMS
  2. Let it run for 2 minutes
  3. While it’s starting up. Completely CLOSE the browser (all windows)
  4. After 2 minutes, Open a fresh browser
  5. Open an incognito window
  6. In that open window, http://192.168.1.18:32400/web
  7. It will report that the server isn’t hosted by Plex – Yes, we know
 it’s hosted on the NAS – hahah
  8. Now sign into Plex/web
  9. Stop Plex
  10. Open FileStation
  11. Navigate to: PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  12. Right-click Logs → Compress to Logs.zip
  13. Download the ZIP file
  14. Attach here.

Please let me know how far you get with this step

@ChuckPa

I’ve done those steps but only get to number 5.
PMS won’t open in incognito when accessing that LAN IP
Here is the log
Logs.zip (640.4 KB)

Are you stating that you can’t open PMS by LAN IP?

If you are – Turn off the Synology Firewall. Figure it out later.

I’ve confirmed the server is running and claimed to your email address and it is sitting there waiting

@ChuckPa

Yes, I can’t open PMS by LAN IP.
It worked but then it stopped without me changing anything except DSM version upgrade but I can’t confirm if it stopped working immediately after the update.

As you can see below, the firewall is disabled and I haven’t enabled it yet.
I tried to turn off Windows firewall too, still the same result.

image

But I tried this:
PMS completely uninstalled + erased all files related to it
NAS rebooted
PMS installed from the package manager [beta]
PMS still won’t open using PMS shortcut or using LAN IP address

NAS has created Plex URL using quickconnect ID even though I turned quickconnect off, is that correct?

image

@ScoRch1

Thank you for that screenshot. You now confirm the problem.

You have PMS 1.21.0-3744 installed.

That was for the DSM 7 Beta only. Synology will not update it.

As consequence, it does not function correctly since DSM became final release.
This is why you’re seeing a QuickConnect link when none should be active.

You might have a mess on your hands at this point (given you had Plex on DSM 6 and now have this beta installed) but it can pretty easily be remedied once we establish which state your PMS installation is in.

Please confirm for me?

You still have your existing DSM 6 Plex server in the old “Plex” shared folder ?
