Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

i tried to make Plex work with synology 7 . nothing helped i followed every post , every tutorial even reset my server , nothing

something is wrong with Plex server

Doesn’t make sense.

Need more info.

In every case, if DSM 7 is supported on the NAS, PMS works.

We need to understand your system, use case, and most importantly what steps got missed.

Where are you at in the process?

  1. DSM 7 installed?
  2. Did you upgrade from DSM 6 ?
  3. Which PMS version did you install ?

Define what doesn’t work.

@ChuckPa I believe I followed the instructions correctly, yet am still having issues (which may be a sign that I didn’t follow instructions correctly
)

  1. I uninstalled PMS from my Synology running DSM 6
  2. I upgraded from DSM 6 to DSM 7
  3. I downloaded the latest version of PMS for Synology DSM 7 from Plex (1.30.0.6442)
  4. I manually installed on my new DSM 7
I did not receive an error when installing but that it had been successful but to still check Permissions.
  5. I went through and made the changes to the Permissions as instructed.
  6. When I go to Open my PMS I get a Page Isn’t Working tab and that my server didn’t send any data (and I cannot see my server within my Plex account)

The user Fumi88 noted that he had both Plex and PlexMediaServer folders now on his server. I do as well.

I DO have the Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
which by your note is NOT what is supposed to happen.

I also see you noted that Version 1.30.0 is Beta and you recommend stay at 1.29.2
I do not have this version other than what was built for DSM 6 (PlexMediaServer-1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6-x86_64_DSM6) and Plex doesn’t allow us to access old versions. Perhaps this is the solution if I can find a link?

Please advise.

Thank you,
Joe

At this point, if it didn’t ask you to fix the permissions – is where the deviation from normal occurred. That’s a clue it didn’t detect at least the basics of a DSM 6 installation existing.

It’s not a big deal.

Now that you have the package installed, we can get your DSM 6 pulled over

  1. Uninstall the DSM 7 app with ERASE option (we don’t want that empty one)

  2. Manually set the permissions for the “Plex” shared folder before installing again
    – Use Scenario 2 and it will open the Plex share up so the installer can properly get in there .
    – Make absolutely certain you check the “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files” checkbox along the way. Without this, you’ll get errors and make a mess.

  1. PMS 1.29.2 is the “Public” DSM7 download. Use it please.
(“Synology” download choice is DSM 6, “Synology (DSM7)” is DSM 7.

@ChuckPa Where am I going wrong here for getting 1.29.2?

EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like the Plex Pass downloads is what was doing it. Let’s give this another whirl

That worked! Thank you!!

Though one small thing

The Open link and URL from the Package Center page still takes me to the empty response Page Isn’t Working tab but everything is working fine when I log-in to Plex regularly

what do you mean here?

Your server isn’t opening correctly and showing you as the owner / it’s not there?

If that’s the case:

  1. Uninstall the package with the KEEP option

  2. Reinstall the same PMS 1.29.2 SPK file – HOWEVER

  3. Select “Lost or new servers” ( Plex Claim Token option)

  4. Click the blue hyperlink to get a new token

  5. COPY the token from the browser tab which opens

  6. Return to the installer window and PASTE the token into the box in the form

  7. Click NEXT NEXT DONE and let it install.

When finished, it will confirm your username

If it doesn’t, find out why the NAS can’t talk to Plex.tv and retry

Hello everybody,
The last version of Plex (PlexMediaServer-1.30.0.6486-629d58034-x86_64_DSM6 )
doesn’t work with the last version of DSM (7.1.1-42962 Update 3). I’ve got this message (this packet need dsm 7.0-40000 or older) :

have you a solution to this ?

Sorry it was the wrong version of Plex. i think it will be fine with this version PlexMediaServer-1.30.1.6497-5fc2e0894-x86_64_DSM7.

@David1er

Yes, you must be careful when downloading.

We support DSM 6 “Synology” and DSM 7 “Synology (DSM7)” on the downloads page.

Hello. First let me state I am not an expert, so be gentle. I installed 7.0 then immediately got the 7.1 update notice. I now cannot access my plex server
Synology DS1517+. I have been running the thing for 3.5 years with no issues. Now I am lost.

Again, a lot of the discussion in the thread is confusing to me. Help?

David,
I presume you upgraded from DSM 6 ?

If true, you have a “Plex” shared folder which has ‘Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server’ still in it ?

If so, dont’ worry.

I am not sure where to find that. FYI, I did go to the shared folder and changed “Local” to “System Internal User” to read/write.

What is weird but good I guess, is I can still log into the synology over wifi from my macbook. So I can access the drives at least.

I should also clarify I still have access via the web page portal to the 1517+. I currently have a request to run the repair
which I won’t since I read not to. I did unfortunately run it once before I found this thread.

Please do NOT run “Repair” cancel that.

Running Repair will only make a huge mess

I will not “repair.” However I did run it once before I found this thread. I installed (or tried to) befor I found this thread. I am not sure what to do now. Tell me where to look to find the Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server folder.

I want to be as helpful as i can. I obviously only know enough to be dangerous. :frowning:

Uninstall the DSM 6 Plex package.

Send me screenshots of what you see in FileStation if you have ANY doubts.

Knowing you have (in shared folder "Plex) , Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server ) , IF this is true, Uninstall the DSM 7 package you do have installed with the ERASE option. (it’s a rogue and empty install which only causes more problems)

Next, I’d like you to read here. It will give you an idea of what will happen.

(Scroll down a little bit. You are “Scenario 2” )

Let me know when you’ve had time to look through this.

Reading now. Not sure where to find “Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server.” This is what I have in “Shared Folder” that I know how to get to.

FileStation → (left side) Plex

Now see (right side) Library → Application Support → Plex Media Server

Looks like I am good. Just went through and checked all the boxes under permissions and saved. Was about to uninstall but I am not sure how to do that without erasing everything. The same notification that urges me to “Repair” (I won’t) has a drop down menu that also says “Uninstall.” Is that where?
