Do not use Package Center from Synology. They have refused to update our package.
Not sure how I missed that.
Thanks for the quick response!
Hello. I just bought a DS720+. This is my first NAS. I installed DSM 7 on the NAS during initial setup and put all my media files in a Share named “Plex.” I followed a YouTube guide which prompted me to install the PMS Beta from Synology. After the install, I kept getting the No Soup For You page. Then I found this forum. Since then, I have tried to manually install PMS 1.30.1.6497 several times and keep getting the “Get PMS” loop. I have tried installing with and without Claim Tokens. The PMS Internal User has Read/Write access to my Plex Share. I have tried launching Plex from Synology and accessing directly via local IP:32400. I was originally running PMS on an old Windows machine but something happened a few months ago and all the media on that server disappeared. I was trying to do a fresh install on the new NAS. I’m still stuck in the “Get PMS” loop. Any ideas?
There are a few requirements:
-
Your home LAN is RFC-1918 compliant (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x)
-
You and your NAS are on the same subnet on that home LAN.
-
You turn off QuickConnect until after PMS is claimed (DSM 7 is freaky and PMS is overly strict)
-
Open the Syno using the
http://lan.ip.of.syno:32400/webURL.
Once the setup is complete then you can access it freely
Thanks for the quick response. Looks like I have to get my ISP to change the default gateway as it is not (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) and they use some off brand router that I cannot get access to.
Thanks for the help!
Per IETF RFC-1918, your LAN side can be (IPv4)
- 192.168.x.x
- 10.x.x.x
- 172.16.x.x → 172.31.x.x
Most of these are /24 (255.255.255.0) networks (more than 253 devices are rarely needed)
If they have made you IPv6-only then please address that as well.
Plex does not yet support IPv6
Ok, understood. Unfortunately, my gateway isn’t any of those ranges. Off to fight with the ISP. Thanks again!
I look at your account and see a “fiber” provider ? (based on IP address we see)
Do you have a WAN address coming in or a CGNAT address applied to your LAN ?
Yes, we have fiber into a Dasan Zhone modem/router which converts to copper. I’m honestly not sure if it’s CGNAT (first time hearing that term). I ran /ipconfig and the Ethernet adapter gateway starts with 69.166.
I have a DS415Play running the latest version of DSM 7 now (just updared). I think I have totally botched the Plex upgrade (was working great on DSM 6) as it is not even loading the install package I downloaded from Plex. I don’t care about keep keeping any metadata and can build a new library if needed. Any advice to get Plex working again would be appreciated.
- Which PMS version did you install? From Plex.tv or from Synology?
- Do you still have “Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server” ?
I tried to install the 32 bit version for DSM 7 from Plex downloads manually.
If you are asking if I still have the old Plex folder…yes I do.
The DS415play is a 32 bit Intel CPU.
To get this all to work, you will need to “migrate” your metadata from DSM 6 → DSM 7.
There are some details which have to be done for it all to work – and it will take time because each file (metadata) will be converted and moved.
(Yes, this is a royal pain but that’s what happened to us in DSM 7)
Look here
Scroll down.
You will probably want to start at “Scenario 2”
Of all the steps in there where you give “PlexMediaServer” Full Control of the Plex shared folder,
The most important step is to remember to check the box “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files” as you grant the permissions.
Without it, it will fail
When it starts to work… It will sit there.
Don’t interrupt it or navigate away from the page
Open a new tab to DSM, look in the Plex share, and you’ll see a “Migration.log” file after about 3 minutes.
You can follow the progress.
It’s done when you see “Cleaning /volume1/Plex” completed.
=====================
After all I’ve written here, if it finishes very quickly
AND
your metadata is still in the Plex shared folder. let me know
It’ll mean we need to clear things out and then do it again/
What if I don’t care about migrating my meta data…can I just do a fresh install?
- Delete “Library” from the Plex shared folder
- Install PMS
You’ll have a new server instance.
Will renaming the Plex folder and reinstalling serve the same purpose?
Renaming Library will serve the same purpose
The installation scripting looks for a valid instance; defined as:
Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
If it doesn’t find one, it continues as if a new instance
Ok will try…thank you and happy new year !!!
I keep getting the following error when I try Uploading the plex package:
“Unable to perform this operation. Please sign in to DSM and try again later.”
Restart DSM. It got itself confused.
