Synology - DSM 7 Plex Not Up Upgrading

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244-7000
Player Version#:

I’ve never had issues updating my Plex before. I download the required file, go to Manual Install in Synology, click go - then I get a “Your login is invalid. Please sign in again” message.

I’m already logged into Synology. I can be logged into Plex - or stop it running but cant get past the message above.

Any thoughts?

This is DSM complaining. PMS isn’t involved yet.
Package Center doesn’t think your username has sufficient Administrator privilege.

Sometimes, restarting DSM is the easy way to clear things up

Thanks - but I tried restarting and still the same issue!
Any other thoughts?

Yes,

  1. Create a new, temporary, account with Administrator privilege
  2. Sign in as that user.
  3. If you cannot install the SPK (it complains about your login), you’ll need to reset DSM (which is a bit messy but there is no data loss)

Bummer - still no go.

I think I’ll hold off on resetting DSM - sounds like a lot of work!
It only seems to be Plex that isnt playing along. It might be easier to re-install it?

Resetting DSM takes time - only.

The general procedure – LInk at the bottom of this post –

  1. Backup your NAS configuration in Control Panel - Backup & Restore

  2. Install the Synology Assistant app to assist you after the reset (to get back in if you’re not using MAC reservations for network addressing)

  3. Reset DSM – per their instructions

  4. Reload DSM

  5. Open the assistant app to find the NAS if you can’t find it in your browser and get into it

  6. Reload the config using the backup you just made. (brings back all your DSM settings)

  7. Reinstall the apps ( All their data will still be there … nothing will be lost )

You want “Mode 2 - Reinstall DSM”

The tiny reset button is the hardest part.
You press it. Hear the beep start. WAIT until it completes, THEN let go.

If you don’t get a full beep , it doesn’t count.

When you get to the “3 beeps” point, LET GO as soon as the 3rd beep finishes.
(4 beeps is a different function). Be prompt. Don’t freak, and you’ll be fine.

I do it all the time

IF you want to reinstall Plex… That’s fine.

  1. Uninstall + KEEP
  2. Reboot
  3. Install

The installer will see everything exists and pick up where it left off.

If you have Plex authentication problems, that’s a different issue for which I’ll need to see the log files (manually zipped)

I tried unistalling PLex and reinstalling. The uninstall worked - but got the same error when I tried to re-install! No I have no plex!

Finally got the guts to do the “Reset DSM”. The good news - no data appears to be lost as you said - but when I went to re-install PLEX, I once again got the same error! Login is invalid!

Put a ticket in with Synology - see what they say!

To confirm, you’re at the point where DSM is not letting you perform a manual install .

On a semi-related thought

We all were surprised to learn something very significant.

Package Center has been updated by Synology.
They now offer PMS 1.29.2.6364 which is PRETTY DARN GOOD.

Care to give it a shot (NORMAL INSTALL ) ?

Yip - Manual install is no go. I did find the PMS on the Synology Package center - and it worked! Plex is installed again, but there is an update available which looks like it still needs to be done using a manual update which still gets the same error. But at least Plex is installed again!

Go to Synology directly using the IP address and try.

Same result with either Direct IP or Quickconnect.

@Harry_B

Uninstall with the KEEP option (first radio button)

Reinstall – HOWEVER

  1. Click “new or lost servers” (Plex Claim Token method)
  2. Click "Get Plex Claim Token hyperlink
  3. From the tab which opens, COPY the token
  4. Return to the installer tab
  5. PASTE the token in the box on the form.
  6. CLick NEXT - NEXT - DONE and let it install.
  7. If successful, it will report success and show “Claimed by: YourPlexUsername”

Ref:

For this to work, the only requirements are

  • a valid connection from DSM → Plex.tv
  • a valid username (account) to claim it with

I have ran into that but logging into with direct up in incognito always works for me.

I did actually do the “plex claim token” when I reinstalled.

Grab me the logs ZIP file please (manually using filestation) and share it here.
I want to see what isn’t working right.

Curious chuck, the error he is getting is from dsm. How would the server logs show that? Id assume any manual install would provide the same result.

Is this what you want? Was under PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Logs

Plex Media Server.log (2.9 MB)

The server has you signed in.

which IP are you connecting from?

Yip - that’s the IP the Synology server is on. I’m in a hirise which only has Gigafy ISP.
