For some reason my Synology package is stopping randomly when I have been running this for a long time without issue. It’s all up to date and I dont really want to uninstall and reinstall Plex as I believe it will potentially mess up my library and I have a few family members as users and it might cause issues for them? Provided the logs to see if anyone can give me a hand? Thank you! I am a plex pass member and have the beta installed but cant roll it back.

Do you use any Tv recording? Mine seemed to be something changing in the Recorded TV folders trying to create video markers during scanning. I feel like Plex changed something in the background of handling Recorded TV shows and after cleaning up the folder it has stopped my server from shutting down daily.

No I dont use any of that functionality. Literally just standard Plex streaming. Haven’t changed anything with my setup, so no idea why its suddenly randomly stopping.

Plex crashed during Intro Detection for the TV show Hacks.

However, you’ve some file permission issues. Resolve those first, then see if Plex still crashes during nightly maintenance.

From Plex Media Server.log:
Oct 23, 2023 14:35:18.946 [140041677204280] ERROR - [Notify] Failed to add watch for "/volume2/Media/Anime" (13: Permission denied)

The above message repeats 1100+ times and includes movies and tv shows.

Grant user plex at least read only permissions for everything in /volume2/Media.

See FAQ 19: Setting permissions to allow Plex access to media files.

IMPORTANT: You must check the box to “Apply to this folder, sub-folder, and files.”

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me look into this. I have just edited the permissions and will keep an eye on it.

If you do not want to wait on nightly maintenance…

To check if file permissions worked:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server, wait 1 minute
  2. Start Plex Media Server, wait 2 minutes.
  3. Look in Plex Media Server.log for [Notify] Failed to add watch... messages.

The stop/start forces Plex to re-scan media folders. The 1 & 2 minute wait are to make sure Plex has time to log everything.

After doing above, to manually run Intro Detection:

  1. Open two browser windows: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/
  2. In first window, go to Settings → Console (this is to monitor progress)
  3. In second window, go to Hacks.
  4. Select Seasons (click in upper right corner of season poster).
If you have Seasons hidden, select all the episodes. Click in upper right corner of episode posters. You can shift-click first & last episode to select all.
  5. Analyze the seasons/episodes (Choose Analyze in “three dots” menu).
  6. You can monitor progress in the console window.

The analysis should happen pretty quick, within seconds for less than 10 episodes. You’ll see the log entries:
Example:
[Req#709f2] Activity: updated activity 84fae63a-e9b4-4ef6-b134-0889cfe9d26c - completed 100.0% - Detecting intros

If Plex Media Server crashes again, restart it, then pull & post log files.

Quick follow-up.

Latest beta has a fix for some Intro Detection problems.

Might give it a try and see if it helps with your server.

Hey thanks for the update looks like what you suggested yesterday worked a treat. But will update to the latest beta just to be sure.
