There was an unexpected error

ok, I may have found the start of a solution…

My plex media server is running on an Intel NUC on Ubuntu. I always access it via the default way of going to the link provided by plex:

https://app.plex.tv/desktop

This is where I always get the above error.

If however I have cleaned everything out as in the above posts, and I now go directly to the plex interface on my server (Server IP = 1.2.3.4), port 32400 everything goes back to normal and no error message:

http://1.2.3.4:32400/

I can now add a DVR !!! I will carry on trying this method and see what happens.

UPDATE - Ok I’ve added the DVR and I’m now receiving Live TV!! SO it seems fixed for now. I’m going to leave it running for a few days to see what happens and if it loses any config etc.

In summary, I’ve done the following :

  1. Removed the 3 x tv.plex.* files
  2. Removed the table “media_provider_resources” from the DB
  3. rebooted the server
  4. Accessed via the server IP and not the plex URL.

I’m seeing this issue a couple of times a day. My channel mappings completely disappear and I need to go back in and manually select and map every channel from the web (using a Windows client simply shows the unexpected error message). From there it works, but I would really rather not have to re-set up live TV multiple times a day if I can avoid it.

I apologize for my too brief response about the media_provider_resources table, I meant to say delete the row with the tuner info.

Sounds like a regression has crept back into the hosted app.plex.tv app.

@adkaminski_gmail_com Do you or have you had Dizquetv or Xteve, Dizque for sure has a setting to delete the channel list periodically.

@pl_5309 son of a gun if that might not be the issue! I had disabled Dizquetv but left it on auto-restart in Docker so it came back from the dead. I didn’t realize it had a component that would delete out channels. I’ve done my full reset again and we’ll see if that solves it!

Any further development on this especially from Plex? I have just been using the HD HomeRun app but have been dealing with this issue for the better part of a year now.

Same here! I’ve got a server in a nvidia shield and seems that some broken configuration blocks me to access the dvr settings. I’ve found this:

While that’s not my specific case, seems that I’m getting an HTTP 404:

HTTP/2.0 (0.3s) 404 response from GET https://epg.provider.plex.tv/lineups/5cfe43ef084e78001e5226d3/channels?X-Plex-Api-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (reused)
downloadContainer: expected MediaContainer element, found Error

I tried dang near everything else from DB cleanup to different browsers, clearing cache files, and I’m almost certain this was the ticket to fixing it. Was FINALLY able to view the tuner and blast it then readd it. If you have the tuner set to transcode while recording, make sure to switch this back once you’ve removed and readded your tuner. Thanks, serge35!

I wish I would have seen this before deleting the whole table and breaking my install completely!

I had to recreate the table by-hand to fix it all. Looks like things are happy now.

So what exactly is the fix for this? I enabled Plex Tuner a while back, but I never use it and I don’t believe I even have the tuner connected anymore, so I just want to stop the tuner service, but I’m unable to get into the settings at all. I get the same error.

There is a problem with DVR Settings on the new DVR Setup ux for DVRs with old lineup that no longer exists (eg TiVo old lineup from 2020)

This is with the Plex Web team at the moment to resolve

There is a workaround posted in the forum here but it involves editing the database
Workaround: There was an unexpected error when going to settings page - Live TV & DVR - Plex Forum

A fix for the Unexpected Error when selecting DVR Settings has just been released in hosted Plex Web App version 4.74.1 available through https://app.plex.tv/desktop

See Release Notice

  • Fixed the DVR and LiveTV settings error if DVR has old and no longer existing lineup

With this fix the settings page will load an allow you to delete the old DVR

I have the same problem running Centos7. My HDHomerun is no longer available. I was able to catch the screenshot before it disappeared (it happens so fast now I cannot see it let alone get a a mouse over to “delete” the DVR.

I’m running PMS 1.25.5 so that doesn’t fix it. I’ve tried going through via web (both Safari and Mozilla on a Mac) plus also the Plex App for Mac.

I have deleted the cache file (after shutting down Plex) which does not help.

Any suggestions on how to edit the dB on Linux would be greatly appreciated.

The fix was in Plex Web and not in Plex Media Server
Please read my post above There was an unexpected error - #33 by sa2000

which Plex Web url did you use ?

The fix is in the hosted version which is available via https://app.plex.tv/desktop

I realized the sql command that is discussed works no CentOS. I deleted the reference as recommended and all is working now. My issue is that the HDHomerun no longer existed.

Thanks for the feedback

Plex Web via https://app.plex.tv/desktop should have allowed you to delete the DVR as it has the fix which came in version 4.74.1
