TheTVDB metadata - V3 API and related issues

After this is over we hope a scan corrects everything, if not, we hope Refresh Metadata fixes everything, if not, we KNOW The Plex Dance will fix everything that’s left.

The key words are - After This is Over. We don’t know at what stage ‘This’ is right now. I am not adding anything new until ‘This’ is Over.

JuiceWSA,
I believe that was directed to me?

@j0ps

I initially went through the forums and swept up all the initial declarations of problems. I pointed them to this thread so any information, not previously known, could be focused into one place.

Concurrently, the Notice / announcement post was made by Achilles.
These two are linked.

Announcements will be made in the Notification thread. This includes when Engineering has information updates for us.

This thread serves to collect additional information provided it is not already known. “Me too” posts will be removed. There is nothing served by making a 50 page thread.

At this point in time, as I have previously stated:

  1. We have the scope of the problem well in hand. We see the what the existing agent does not understand about this incarnation of the new TheTVDB V3 API.

  2. We are working with them to resolve their fine tuning of the new API.

  3. Once the API is in final form (stable), we can make the final changes to PMS’ agent.

Take "My situation is this… " discussions elsewhere please unless it is known to be completely different than already stated above.

Thanks

I would like to encourage Plex to investigate using other metadata sources outside of TVDB. They have a lengthy history of being unreliable (seriously, it’s been years they they have had issues with the site and API going down for days at a time), their site moderators have a well-known reputation for being difficult to deal with, and they apparently push site-breaking updates with zero regard for their end-users.

I know this wouldn’t be an immediate change, but I think it would be a good idea to at least introduce the idea of breaking reliance on TVDB and its data.

Kindly file a feature suggestion. it is far less likely to get lost there than here.

Thanks for the suggestion, will do. Good luck with the fix, I’m sure you guys will have Plex working with them soon enough.

Thank you, Chuck. Please keep us posted

Why is there no mention of this metadata outage on the plex status page?
https://status.plex.tv/
It would be nice to have the current situation represented there for simple “is it working yet” checks.

I’ve asked in the other thread but I’ll try again. Will the fix require a server update? Or is the agent update something done on the “Plex” side of things?

Concur with this. Folks savvy enough to know what tvdb even is/does will know, but without some digging it just looks like a Plex issue and not a tvdb issue. I do agree this isn’t on Plex, of course, but yeah maybe under ‘metadata partners’ or something.

I will forward the suggestion to the operations team about having a “metadata status”

Thank you ChuckPA! If they put the status there, then you won’t have to keep us posted. Although your additional details are always helpful.

Well.
Sonarr have access to TVDB.
I tested my PMS and I obtained metadata (with covers and Season) without any problem with TVDB right now.
After that I checked the Webpage of TVDB and… 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

Maybe they will rollback or mantain V2 and V3 together

They already rolled back once, I guess they are not planning to due it again.

@ChuckPa answered this earlier up in the thread:

I don’t want to say this too soon, but it looks like it’s working now. I’m able to find matches for shows that weren’t able to be found before and all artwork is now showing up

Its pulling everything but posters now.

Pretty much the same here. Artwork is slowly showing up now.
Woot!

I wish fanart.tv would work. We should not be relying on one site.

I’m glad I read your comment. I am trying to match a new show and the poster is wrong. Even unmatching and Clearing Plugin/Channel/Agent HTTP Caches doesn’t remove the incorrect poster.
