TheTVDB metadata - V3 API and related issues

Im not getting any posters. Just the gray box. But it recognizes what show it is because all the cast info and episode descriptions are right.

Right. I am trying to add The Spy but the poster is for Spy 2015. I just tried the Plex Dance too and the poster remains even when unmatched which is leading me to think the poster is stuck in Plex somewhere?

Thanks, I must have missed it.
Too bad for me then, I was hoping to avoid an update since I’m on a fixed version because of an unresolved issue.
We’ll see what happens with the final fix.

TO ALL ABOUT TO POST HERE

Please read above before posting.

Chances are your question has already been referenced

I am currently starting to pickup all meta data from TVDB. it appears from the console that TVDB has given PMS a master-pass. of some sort. there are a lot of extra lines of log information relating to authentication. Lets see how long this works. This looks like a temporary fix.

+1. I started fetching metadata for ~500 episodes in 14 TV shows and they’ve been added. One peculiar thing to mention would be, that posters have been loaded on a TV show level (I have several to choose from), but not on a season level.

EDIT: After manually matching the TV show (Not the auto match function) everything seems to be working at first sight :+1:

Update

I just chatted with the engineering team.

They’ve been working with TheTVDB folks over the weekend to work out kinks with their new API.

The one SSL anomaly is still being monitored closely and worked. It’s transient and, as of yet, a mystery.

In general, data should be flowing again and stability of TheTVDB should be returning.

Chuck, Scott from TheTVDB here. Thank you so much for keeping everyone updated as we work through this. We love working with your engineering team, but wish it was under less stressful circumstances. As Plex users ourselves, we’re really looking forward to getting everything working perfectly.

Chuck, I have a new show that the poster is incorrect. I have tried clearing tvdb cache, plex dance and even when show is unmatched it continues to show the wrong poster. Is this related or do i have to hack the poster out of Plex somehow?

TV Shows I have had in my library previously seem to be working with data coming through and episode screenshot, but any new Tv Shows I add seem to be missing the artwork and come up blank.

The text and episode names seem to be pulling through but any new graphics aren’t coming through. I have been uploading them manually for now

Please be patient as they get this all working on their end again.

There isn’t anything we can do until such time as they work it all out.
After it is supposed to be back online fully, we can then start working through wrongful image posters, etc.

I am not surprised to find incorrect returns at this stage of their corrective efforts.

Missing posters is a known issue we’re working on.

And for reference, although it won’t appease everyone, the Plex engineering team has been kindly testing for us since the spring. This was a major change involving schema changes, data transformations and migrations, infrastructure changes, and even management and team changes behind the scenes. The bugs are on our end and will be resolved soon. We’re looking forward to getting this rollout finalized so we can start improving the quality of our data, processes, and features. This benefits everyone, at the cost of a few days of headaches.

Yeah, definitely want to wait it out. I would not Plex Dance anything at this stage until everything is fully functional.

You could imagine everyone spamming that refresh metadata at this point and how heavy that would be!

@scottzsori

Thanks for taking a few minutes and dropping by with the update for everyone.
Your time, efforts, and words are greatly appreciated.

Understood. When I unmatch I would expect to not see a poster but I see the same incorrectly initially matched poster. Are you saying this will resolve itself when TVDB finish their changes?

I was going crazy, why posters and metadata were not showing up. Luckily i found this thread. I was googling fixes, it said to delete tvdb cache. Which I did and that fixed my metadata issues. Posters still not working though. I read through some said there posters are working now? Side note running version 1.18.2.2029.

Thank you

Same issue here …

After lack of results via having clicked refreshed metadata, unmatch, matched, renamed files …
Googled around to see I’m not alone, found this thread: Anyone else having metadata not loading issues?
Lead me here.

It’s not a pleasant situation, but I’m amazed on:

  • the quick and open communication Plex towards his users, thanks @ChuckPA and @scottzsori
  • the proactive community to find ad share a quick & dirty solution straight up; thanks @geoffnorton and @BrutuZ

Getting Plex and supporting it via Plex Pass is not choice I regret, as during such moments it shines by being an industry benchmark on reactivity and service level.
Wish more companies would adopt these high standards.

Thank you and hopefully this issue will be sorted soon.

7 posts were split to a new topic: Understanding extra XML isn’t always present

@scottzsori and @ChuckPa it looks like I have started to receive poster art at the tv show level, but still not receiving any poster data at a season level.
