TV Episode is getting recorded twice

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1297
Player Version#: N/A

For the past week, multiple copies of “The Daily Show” on channel 690 have been recording.

In some instances, the show records at 11:00 PM, and again a couple of hours later.

In some instances, the records twice at the same time at 11:00 PM.

I see this in my upcoming recordings as well (for other shows). Same times, same channels 2 recordings. Interestingly, in the screenshot below, one of them has already recorded, and in a way it has as I recorded this yesterday. Is it to do with the EPG still missing season/show info for this show?

I experience this on loads of shows. It is now far worse that the epg source changed. It’s not actually recording twice. Plex just knows that it already has that episode and so is displaying it. You’ll just end up with an additional “copy” of that recording. I went through last weekend and i’ve recorded some shows over and over many times.
I have a dozen copies of shows that trigger this. It’s not every show, and I think it’s a bug in their matching logic.

@sa2000 hi - this is not a channel specific error, so thought I’d being it to your attention - thanks.

I upgraded to 1.16.2.1321 earlier this week and the issue is still happening with recordings of “The Daily Show” on Channel 690.

Most recently, it recorded at 11:00 PM EDT on July 18, but then it looks like in the logs it is post processing the episode again @ 01:39:03, creating a 2nd copy of the show that was already processed. This has happened multiple times this week with “The Daily Show” on Channel 690.

Yep I’m seeing this too - seems to be duplicate copies of the same recording, called (copy 1), (copy 2), etc. Didn’t have this before with the old EPG.

I’m seeing this too - It just started today (possibly right after my last update a day or two ago).

I’m running v1.16.3.1402

Reloading the EPG schedule fixed the problem for me.

Upgraded to 1.16.3.1402.

Had to rebuild the DVR. Have not had the issue since.

Not solved for me - on latest version. Is it anything to do with having ads cut out? Found it had two versions, one recorded at 13:00, another a few hours later with same filename with (copy 1) appended and 9MB smaller.

The logs show a failed automatic migration to the new EPG. So i would like to get this sorted first as the episodes were still referencing old EPG data

I am sending you an alpha release of 1.16.4 with a fix for this. This should allow the DVR to be auto deleted after the failed migration. Then what you would need to do is wait few minutes after launch of Plex Media Server and then go to server settings for Live TV and DVR and go through manual setup with zip code and selecting the OTA lineup for your area or cable if you are on cable etc…

If problems persist after this, please let me have new logs and details of what went wrong

Thank you

sorry missed this post = ok so you managed to get the DVR deleted and recreated.
No need to send you the alpha build with the fix for the auto deletion bug

Could be a failed automatic migration as was for @dugiehowsa

Would need logs capturing the time of the first and repeat recordings. Please capture immediately as the logs may get overwritten

I deleted my DVR and recreated it after the new guide though so I didn’t think there would be anything to migrate?

Could be tricky to capture logs straight after as the recording happens during the day when I’m at work.

Lets get logs taken 10 minutes after a restart and for recording issues, you could increase number of logs to 20 or 30
See LogNumFiles setting

Log files attached. In case it helps I noted the following for the recording times on my NAS folderPlex Media Server Logs_2019-08-06_19-13-16.zip (3.1 MB) :
06/08/2019 14:30:19 (orig)
06/08/2019 18:10:58 (copy 1)

I should also note the issue is happening again to me as well. Currently it only happens for the 11:00 PM recording of “The Daily Show” on channel 690. It has happened all three times the show has aired this week.

Logs Attached.

I have had this issue repeatedly too over the last month, in my case for Neighbours and Home and Away on Channel 5 UK (Freeview London OTA). These shows air the same episode twice in the same day, and would often, but inconsistently, record it twice creating a “copy”.

No logs I’m afraid, but I can pass on that I totally re-installed Ubuntu and Plex from scratch multiple times yet this persisted, so not a migration issue in my case.

I also noticed (but perhaps this is expected behaviour) that after setting up Plex again from scratch and adding previous recordings into my library, they will be recorded again as “copies”. I.e. recordings made by a previous DVR do not seem properly linked to the new DVR.

I’ll be following this thread with interest…

These 2 shows have been reported to Plex as having issues

The Season/Episode for Home and Away is wrong and the aired date for Neighbours is wrong

Thanks that’s good to know. Do you know how I can monitor whether this is fixed? Or have known it was reported? Is there a thread somewhere?

Sorry. Very new to these forums.

Cheers.
