UK Channel Issues - 19 DAVE / 25 YESTDAY and other EPG issues

I rolled back to 1.15.8.1198 - despite the emails to the contrary the EPG is still updating with gracenote data. I’ll not upgrade again ( I tried at the start but there were too many bugs) until either 1.15 stops working properly or the EPG problems in 1.16 are fixed.

If 1.15 stops working first, I’ll look at alternate solutions but I don’t have time to beta test Plex’s new versions for them.

@elan

Is there any update you can give on this

The new EPG is totally broken for the UK with so many issues, it is very unrealistic to expect users to find and report every issue.
Most people here are happy to report discrepancies with the EPG, but it need properly checking from Plex’s end to make sure the basics are in place first

Hope you can provide some feedback so we can start using the DVR again

Thanks

An extra issue … movies on The Horror Channel (Freeview ch 70) are being listed as TV Programs, and then being mismatched against real TV programs.

For example, “Priest” is on The Horror Channel on Mon 22 July at 9pm. Plex has matched this as an extra episode of the BBC 1 show “Press” which I’d previously recorded, and scheduled it accordingly.

So now on top of everything else I need to check for random movies being added to my recording list and then tweak the recording settings to exclude them.

Awesome tip - thanks! I have just set up a 2nd server with v1.15.8.1198 mapping only my “lost” channels and there they all are.

It’s taking ages to populate though; 20 mins and only halfway though. Was that also the case for you?

Even if it only provides a week’s worth, its still breathing space.

cheers!

I’ve got it setup to update the EPG overnight so not sure how long it takes, but if you’ve not done it for a while, I can imagine will will take a long time to repopulate. It takes an age if you have the extended guide data set.

Yes, overnight for me as well in the scheduled maintenance.

It took 40 minutes - no complaints because at least it worked

Which channels are missing on Gracenote still? On the FreeView OTA one using Gracenote I was always missing Cardiff channel 8, Now 80 and 90 plus Tiny Pop and a couple of the others, but Grapefruits EPG description was far better.

I’ve stocked up on tinned food and bottled water, hope I’ve got enough to last

Dave

hahaha. I nearly always have to edit my posts about 30 seconds after posting when I realise auto-correct has done its thing

I wasn’t aware that Gracenote was missing anything (only the new provider). I am on Freeview OTA and only use 19 channels which are all still OK on Gracenote with v1.15.8.1198.

@JCHH Yeah Gracenote here in South Wales using the OTA guide was always missing channels, especially Now 80 & 90, TCC and Tiny Pop plus a number of radio stations.
It’s swings and roundabouts with the EPG systems then still, we either have all channels and have no guide info, or missing channels and get guide data… I’m opting for my own over the next 2 days of nothing is fixed, as I’ve mentioned, everything is in place, just need to run both Tvheadend and antennas then I should be good to go.

Dave

@mw0dcmplex. OK, I just opened those channels on my HDHomeRun and I have mapped them in Plex. Give me 30 mins and I’ll let you know what the guide looks like.

@JCHH Ah, you’re using the Hdhomerun device, I’ve only got the WinTV DualHD tuners, so got to put up with Plex’s guide or use the Hdhomerun emulator Antennas through Tvheadend to map all the channels with a more reliable EPG

Dave

My HDHomerun also only has 2 tuners. …I may have used the wrong words, but with the HDHomerun you can switch off TV channels (BBC, ITV) from being seen on the network).

OK, this is what I got for your channels. It seems OK to me but not sure if the detail is right, Please ignore the other channels - those are the ones that Plex are screwing up with their new EPG provider. Feel free to ask me to check out a specific date time for you.

@JCHH Yeah we can do the same using the Plex guide, are you using the Hdhomerun to get the OTA guide to? If this is the case, it answers my theory that Gracenote fails to have these channels in the guide data.
I’ll give Plex 2 more days before I move over to tvheadend and the Hdhomerun emulator Antennas which will give me all the correct data in the EPG so I can record properly again.
I know the Hdhomerun can use it’s own EPG data from OTA DTT, which was why I asked.

Dave

That sounds like an error for your location

I have checked mine and Gracenote has these channels

The other thing that’s annoying the hell out of us is the Xbox One version of Plex fails to show the channels that are in the list with no EPG data! So I’ll be doing to the EPG myself from this evening, this way at least I know we’ll have all the channels showing correctly on the Xbox One to… Unsure about Roku, bit they use the same EPG so I can guess that it to won’t display the unknown airings either… @sa2000 we really need that fix quicker than you think…

Dave

Agh, sorry - maybe I wasn’t clear.

I am using Gracenote, not HDHomerun.

I set up a 2nd server with PMS v1.15.8.1198 which still gets Gracenote to handle all the channels that Plex have screwed up with v 1.16 after 1-July. I added your channels as well to help you out (so you did not have to downgrade your PMS only to find out it won’t work for you).

As you can see, Gracenote does find your channels with the EPG “Freeview”. However I cannot confirm if the shows are correct for your region so was offering to look up specific date/times for shows you know about to check.

[edit: typos, as per usual]

@JCHH Many thanks for that one, I know Gracenote or Grapefruit as it was named here failed immensely in grabbing channel data in CF39 postcode.
I’m hoping also that one we’ve moved at the end of August that a 70 elements Freeview antenna will pick up more than the 20’ish the Freeview site is predicting also… Money all the while!!

Dave

@mw0dcmplex Would you like me to try with your Postcode? …not a big deal for me - just need to do it when I know I am not about to record anything.

If it works, you can confidently downgrade to 1.15 and buy yourself some breathing space in the interim.

@JCHH You can do, but don’t screw up your recordings… I’m not sure that @sa2000 really grasping the task that needs to be done and quickly, out better still, just close the DVR down and Plex can carry on adding new features rather than not putting resources in to fixing the ones in hand. It seems as long as the US customers are all good to go, they aren’t bothered about anyone else!!

My opinion sorry!!!
