UK Scanning Issue - Losing Channels

Which build did he give you? The one I’m on is 1.16.0.1226
I’ve tried a different user created Lineup that seems to be from WG++ not Gracenote as said, and still missing channels… What on earth are Emby doing differently to Plex to get a perfect EPG??

Dave

I’m on Version 1.16.0.1226 too.

Personally I think the problem is around the Gracenote is correct source, when It’s actually the Scanning/Channel Detected.

The Plex Logic is Scan Channels, Locate EPG via postcode, then working down the EPG, find the channel from the scanned list. Basically it smeans that if gracenote is wrong, it’s all wrong.

I’m from a GBPVR background (I’m not running Emby) and that used the ‘other’ logic. Which is

Scan Channels, Build Channel list from This List, Then Match Channels to EPG Source. This meant when channels ‘moved’ as they do in the UK (alot) the EPG data was provided when the channel moved from location to another.

Plex (I think) assumes that Gracenote is alway right, Therefore when a channel ‘moves’ EG BBC 1, Gracenote is unaware/behind/poor quality etc means the EPG doesn’t have the channel and thus it ‘vanishes’ from the channel line up.

I’ve got my some of channels back and working, but I’ve using the Local OTA template and I’ve manually matched the ‘critical’ channels. I’m only selected the top 12 channels for the family and the kids. The rest of list it too hard to keep up to date

@sa2000

What the latest plan here ? I’m running the latest build (thanks for that by the way and download is faster) but both @mw0dcmplex and I are still missing channels ?

Do a scan using all frequencies until it is fixed

@paulsalter that’s what I always do, but it still doesn’t put the channels like Cardiff TV and Pop Max and Tiny Pop back in… Gracenote is screwed

Dave

It’s not agreat workaround as I can now see the channels, but I have No EPG data to match which means the channels are basically unavailable to me!

@systemshark Same issue I’ve had for months, and only know after getting this many to add weight to the issue to hopefully get somewhere.
As I said in an earlier post, whatever Emby do, Plex should be the same?

Dave

Out of interest can you show the working EPG for Emby, as both use Gracenote

I can’t, but there is a thread about this and a few users have also commented and moved over to Emby because of this EPG issue… I’m currently in another thread tint to get it sorted, but failing fast. It definitely seems that Plex use Gracenote differently to Emby.

Dave

Thanks,

Following how you get on, I gave up on Emby DVR about 3 months ago as it was even worse than Plex
Will gladly start using Emby DVR again if things have improved

@paulsalter Plex have either got to fix this issue or we have to wait till July??? As I’ve read somewhere that they’re having a new provider???

Only time will tell… But not holding my breath

Dave

For different reason to yourself , as i am mostly happy with the Plex DVR setup and how it works, but other areas of Plex are letting me down, but

Have you looked at NextPVR
The Channels take priority over what the EPG providor has (so channel numbers are correct), uses the Freeview EPG data (can pay for a better if required) and other improvements

I am tempted to make this my primary again, and just use Plex for playback

@paulsalter if there’s a Linux version is five it a try, but I’m happy with the other areas of Plex, sharing movies and TV shows from my hard drives is great, the DVR over the web works great to, but sadly not the EPG…

Dave

Oops, sorry, forgot you mentioned being a Linux user, this is Windows only (though the next version is for more OS’s)

Only a couple of weeks to wait, till the new EPG provider is used
I wish there was more info on this (ie who is it), as UK support is not great for other providers

What would help, is actually beta testing the new provider before allowing it info the wild and then getting flak from users? I’m a little bemused with this approach, I’m surprised they’ve not done this method as they did fixing another one with the TV before.
Anyway, what’s a couple of weeks of other users complaints?
I think they’re all used to the practice by now…

Dave

@mw0dcmplex

Did you see my thought process on how plex works above. I think that’s why plex logic is wrong.

West Central Scotland, Black Hill transmitter, and my channel mapping is wrong in the same way as others have reported: BBC and UKTV channels (Dave, Home, Yesterday, etc) don’t match with the EPG, and I have tried all the OTA/Freeview variants available.

@systemshark I did, I hope @sa2000 or one of the Devs have read this and passed it on? Maybe, that’s how Emby works as you said? Just on the first of 2 buses home through the Valleys… Been a long day…

Dave

Will try xmltv gui grabber against digiGuide tomorrow. I’m in a hotel in poland so have time on my hands

@systemshark seems Gracenote is on a massive outage at present according to what another post has said? Will see what happens if anything??
