UK Scanning Issue - Losing Channels

My reference here was to the 12th June announcement concerning DMAX and Dave and Quest channels

I did not think the BBC announcement affects EPG - sounds like it would affect what the tuner sees as available channels https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/news/item236
I need to look into the logs and see what i would get from the guide data

@sa2000 Thought I’d let you know, I’ve deleted and re-added my DVR using the Freeview “Hand Picked” Lineup, as the others like Sky & Freesat are for Satellite and Virgin is Cable… God only knows why these are in the lineups!!

I’ve attached logs and screenshots of how it’s affected, main BBC Mux isn’t affected by the changes, only the one with Cbeebies on and this along with Quest and Channel 5, 5USA etc, are all found without any issues!! But we still have missing channels in 207, 208, 23 and a few others…

Hope these help???

Dave

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-06-15_22-59-33.zip (5.1 MB)

All 3 Tuners are tuned using the Full UK Frequency sweep as this is the only way we get to see all the channels, using the Wenvoe one gets less than 150!!

Tuner 1 is the most affected as it finds only 14 channels and I have to manually add the rest

Tuner 2 finds 26 channels before I have to manually add the rest…

Tuner 3 finds all and adds all channels, but still has missing channels in the 20’s, 207 & 208 and a few others!!

Have been looking at the logs. I am seeing we identify 16 lineups and over the period covered by the logs you provided, you had used
Local Over the Air broadcast (GBR-OTABA8)
and
Freeview (GBR-1007530)

Logs covered this period
Jun 14, 2019 06:12 to 17:42 (shutdown)
Jun 14, 2019 17:42 to 19:01

During this time Local Over the Air broadcast lineup was in use until 18:26 when switched to the Freeview lineup

Could you tell me when during these periods, was the tuner set to UK ( Full Frequancy) and when to UK (Mendip, Somerset) ?

Also could you get me what is returned for each of these requests please - saving each returned response into a text file

There are 3 requests for each of the 2 tuners

Would like to see this for the 2 scenarios - one when tuners confirgured for UK ( Full Frequancy) and one set for when set for UK (Mendip, Somerset - so there will be 12 saved text files

When you have UK (Mendip, Somerset selected, does the wintv app see the missing channels?

Hi @sa2000

Here are the files as requested. I’ve adding two Zip Files, which includes my Server Logs whcih where restarted preior to each scan.

UKFull is
PMS Server restarted to provide a fresh log file
Both Tuners Scanned with UK Full Freq as Scanning
EPG set to BA8 and 'Profile as ‘Freeview’
Channels Mapping was accepted as default

UKMendip is
PMS Server Restarted to provide a fresh log file
Both Tuners Scanned with UK Mendip, Somerset
EPG set to BA8 and Profile as ‘Freeview’
Channel Mapping was accepted as default

As you will see the Mendip scan appears to be missing all the Channels 1 to 10 which is BBC 1 etc.

Also Strangely The UK Full Scan URL2 you provided resulted in an error, but The URL5 worked fine.

Let me know if you need to run more scans or more test more versions ?
UKFull.zip (2.0 MB) UKMendip.zip (1.7 MB)

@systemshark When you do a rescan, do any of your Tuners do the same as mine and not full the channels in automatically?
Not sure why my first 2 don’t pick them up as my third one does?
Anyway, it’s a Sunday and I’m giving Plex a treat on here today,… But let’s get this issue sorted though. @sa2000 I hope the logs and screenshots are helpful from me also?

Just as an edit at 2210 before I head off to bed, I’ve noticed that Plex Status page is still listing Gracenote as Major Outage!! This is serious, does anyone know what Gracenote’s issue is? or is it a wait till July 1st for this to be fixed? Anyway, anyone wishing to keep a check on the status of Plex and Grapefruit can do it here - https://status.plex.tv/

Just wish this issue would get fixed, and @sa2000, would it be a Gracenote issue to why 2 out of 3 of my Tuners aren’t adding the channel metadata automatically and I’m having to manually add them one by one? if this is the case the issue has been there sine October 2018 when I purchased my 3 WinTV DuoHD Tuners, and quite possibly way before that if others have been having the same issues as I have? Hopemy Logs are helping also?

Hope all have had a great?? or a good weekemd and a peaceful Sunday?

Dave

Thanks for the logs and responses for mendip and full

Looking at one specific channel as example, BBC One, The difference appears to be that the UK ( Full Frequanc) list has BBC One West. Both do appear to have BBC One HD at channel number 101.

So are the HD Channels showing ok on both selections ?

Do you have access to an HD Homerun to try? I am just wondering if the transponder settings we have within Plex Tuner Service need to be adjusted.

When you use the WinTV app for BBC One and BBC One HD using the two selections Mendip and UK Full, can you see if you get both BBC One HD and BBC One West and what frequencies they got tuned on

@systemshark following from my earlier response

When trying the WinTV App with mendip - do you see two BBC One channels available the BBC One HD and the BBC One West ?

Could you try after retuning with the WinTV app and then copy out the xml files within C:\Users\Public\WinTV and also copy of the C:\Users\Public\WinTV\Logs directory and let me see them

@sa2000 Can we clarify something? I doubt it’s a transcoder issue, as I’ve had VLC media player show up and play these channels missing on my setup without any issue when I tube VLC to the frequency. Tiny Pop and Pop Max show without an issue here on the Tonyrefail Transmitter and Cardiff Wenvoe Transmitter.
But I know @systemshark is using MacOS for the server? Seems 2 things I’m helping to solve on Plex are both known about, especially Plex on Android since v7.15.xxx, and Gracenote is still showing as major outage?

Here’s to the next 12 Days… There’s a Partridge in the pear tree at the end!!

Dave

I would like to suggest that you create separate forum topics for your issues and attach your details, logs, screenshots and let me deal here with the issues reported by @systemshark

@sa2000 Ah, so those of us with the same issues fill the forums and don’t get an answer as I’ve found on numerous posts?

Dave

Hi @sa2000

The scanning on WinTv is correctly handling bbc.

I do have an hdhomerun but I’m in poland until Friday so I can try it when I get home.

The bbc channels should be define based on device quality. Bbc west 101 is the reagional version of bbc one hd. Whilst the content is similar it’s not quite the same.

Eg bbc one Hd has news from London.

Bbc one west has news from Bristol.

Given I’m 30 miles from Bristol and 150 from London I clearly rather have bbc west. And normally channel 1.

However for good quality recording I’m looking for bbc one hd to be assigned to a different channel. Normally 101

If you look at the screenshots at the top of the of my post. You will see the screenshot of wintv scanning which shows the results.

I can upload logs but again they will need to done when I’m home.

@mw0dcmplex

I’m actually running plex media server on windows servers (I have 2 servers).

I use macOS as client but I have pms on windows for tuners.

Dave.

Steady. Focus on the goal here. We’re all making process and I’ll keep making logs and I’m sure @sa2000 will keep providing feedback.

Thanks - i can see BBC One West detected with Frequency 562,000 SID 4161
Would like to see also the entry for BBC One HD

and also all the WinTV logs to see if we record the transponder info -

Plex Media Server is seeing triplets triplet://9018:4161:4161 and triplet://9018:16514:17540 for BBC One West and BBC One HD - with the BBC One West only visible when the UK Full Frequency range is used

I am wondering if wintv logs these to compare

Do you know what the frequency changes were for this change
https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/news/item236

We do have some hard coded values for the transponder within Plex Tuner Service and this is the area I am suspecting at the moment

@systemshark when you are back in the UK, I would like to make some experimental adjustments to transponder files that Plex Media Sever uses and to see if that resolves the problem. Initially will do it for BBC One West

When you are back would like to do these url requests using curl - have some corrupt xml pasted in the files and some repeating lines. So bets to get curl to do it rather than copy and paste from the browser

So the 6 requests to do in command line using curl.exe (download from curl - Download) will be

First Tuner

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device074dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6b280070%26rev_04%236%26a0695eb%260%26001000e0%23 > device074.xml

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device074dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6b280070%26rev_04%236%26a0695eb%260%26001000e0%23/channels > device074_channels.xml

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device074dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6b280070%26rev_04%236%26a0695eb%260%26001000e0%23/scanners > device074_scanners.xml

Second Tuner

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device075dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6a280070%26rev_04%236%262d95f54a%260%26000800e0%23 > device075.xml

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device075dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6a280070%26rev_04%236%262d95f54a%260%26000800e0%23/channels > device075_channels.xml

curl http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/compound_device075dvb%23bda%23pci%23ven_14f1%26dev_8852%26subsys_6a280070%26rev_04%236%262d95f54a%260%26000800e0%23/scanners > device075_scanners.xml

and running it when on Full Frequency Range and on Mendip Somerset range

You can amend the filenames to identify full and mendip tetss

For what it’s worth - you can find the information you need at the website http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/coveragechecker/ (make sure you tick the detailed view to get full frequency information).

Now on to the topic at hand, I use the PiHat workaround via TVHeadend, and it has the same issue that you are exploring here. The config for my transmitter misses out lots of channels, but if I do a full scan it picks up all the channels - it is definitely not isolated to Plex, there are clearly plenty of config files that contain UHF channels that do not match what the transmitter is using,

TVHeadend interestingly works best if I manually scan ONE known multiplex by providing the UHF channel number (typically the BBC one) and it appears to be provided with the information for the rest of the UHF channels it needs to scan during this scan (there are a wealth of data tables broadcast by European DVB - SDT/PMT/NIT/BAT etc) by one/more of the many data tables that are broadcast on every multiplex.

The scanning issue may not be related to just Plex, but the missing channel data/EPG data is! We’re now another channel siren here in Wenvoe since the rescan yesterday, Quest has somehow been taken from the EPG thanks to Gracenote and that brings the total number of transmitting channel’s not catered by Gracenote to 13! For the love of Gracenote, get He-man on the case…

Anyway, hope the update to the new provider works better…

Dave

Do you not still have Quest on 37?

Still working for me with full epg, and still available as a selection in the epg setup
