Unable to do Initial Plex Server Setup

Server Version#: 1.9.6.4429

Just factory reset my server while trying to resolve another issue with plex to find that i am now getting a error that states the following " An error occurred" on the setup page. This occurred before any setup options were selected. It loaded directly into that error.

Log:Plex Media Server.log (125.8 KB)

When recovering the NAS, did you run file system checks ?

This error is telling me that PMS thinks it has the data files but nothing is actually there.
This type of error only occurs when there is major corruption of / damage to the file system where it is installed.

You also should be advised: Version 1.9.6 is MUCH TOO OLD to use now. The minimum is 1.15.2

Lastly, be advised this processor isn’t supported either. It does not have enough CPU speed to run correctly.

If you are not able to use QTS 4.3 or higher then the recommendation is to allow the QNAP to be what it is best at – a NAS – and setup PMS on a more capable computer.

I never did a recovery, just a Factory reset and started from scratch.
How would i proceed with doing the check?

Also on further investigation: The location below doesn’t exist on the NAS at all. So is there a way to modify where it points too?

/share/HDD_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Cache

Okay, so how can i resolve this then? Original i deleted the PlexMediaServer Folder located in /share/.qpkg

Unable to USE QTS4.3 on this old as NAS.
While it was working, i had no issues until i ran into this issue here: Cant Claim Server

which had led to this issue now as i was trying to find the quickest and best way to get it working again.

If you deleted what’s under /share/HDD_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer then you’ll need to make App Center also think it’s uninstalled.

Before you install, go to https://app.plex.tv
From there: Settings - Authorized Devices - Servers (dropdown)
Remove (click the “X”) the entry for the QNAP.
Doing this prevents the names from colliding and causing confusion.

After clearing the old instance out, you will install it fresh as a new server because, as is only with QNAP, the metadata is stored with the package software so all the metadata it has is now gone.

There were other ways to claim the server. I wish you’d come in sooner & pinged. We probably would have been able to save what was there.

The files had always been installed under ‘/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/’ as showing in the logs from my other request mentioned above.

That has been done since the original issue that led to all of this.

I will go through and remove the file from both locations again now and re-install. I think this wont make any change.
I will edit this post with my results.

Saving the Data that was there was not a big deal as i can always put three days back into fixing all the miss matches in movie list :stuck_out_tongue: but that give me something to do while i am at working waiting for jobs to come in :stuck_out_tongue:

I never used QTS 4.2 so please forgive me if I’m not well versed.

When you install Plex, then open a SSH session to it, what does getcfg return as the installation path?

[~] # getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path
/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer

Re-installed the application again and still same issue but pointing to the correct path now: Plex Media Server.log (521.8 KB)

That’s much better. Now for the difficulty, which I need go research.

gn_lists.gdb is the gracenote database (for music).

Plex doesn’t use Gracenote anymore.

Do you happen to have any backup where that file might still exist in the backup?
Age does not matter.

No back ups of plex server or system state exist as i only just started using plex as of last week.

Prior that, i was using kodi with MySQL with local access only.

I am starting to think it was a bad idea to have done a factory reset on the nas. Should had been more patient

Ouch…

Actually Double Ouch.

  1. QTS 4.2 isn’t supported by QNAP
  2. Plex dropped all support for it as instructed by QNAP.
  3. Nothing at Plex.tv will speak to anything less than version 1.15.2
  4. Version 1.15.0 changed the glibc() requirement to 2.14.1 (still very old) which QNAP never updated in QTS 4.2 because they were about to discontinue support.
  5. As I stated in my opening post, The D510 CPU is marginal at best If you look at the NAS guide, I doubt you’ll even find this NAS listed because even I can’t identify it from the log files.

I know you want to run PMS on your QNAP but, unfortunately, unless you get something newer than 1.9.6, you won’t be able to move forward at all with this project. ( The ship sailed long ago )

But if this is the case, why was everything working for a week before ■■■■ hit the fan?

The original issues started with the plex no longer communicating outside the network, which i then signed out of my account and all started over again. Or was this a recent change?

I do have plans to upgrade the nas but not yet as i have other expenses that i need to pay for first.

I have created the file that it couldn’t fine but obviously its a blank file so it’s still not working. Is there any way you could dig up the missing file from other users despite this NAS no longer being supported?
