Unable to establish direct connections

Not available outside your network

Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.

For the past two weeks or so i have not been able to get the good green remote access icon it may show green for a moment but will go back to red, or just red all together. I have been using plex for years with remote access working fine, i have made no changes on my end recently.

I also keep getting notifications all day stating remote access is up, remote access is down while i am AFK.

I am assuming this has to do with a recent update, but i am unsure. Thanks for the help!

here are my logs please help Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-02_08-27-23.zip (5.7 MB)

@sa2000 got any advice on this one?

is remote access actually not working or is this solely about the remote access status indicator of your Plex Media Server?

Ever connection is indirect when it would usually be direct. Some users are getting errors on their end saying cannot establish a connection

Are you experiencing this too?

Have you already verified your remote access configuration (on Plex and your router)?

  • UPnP (automatic configuration) vs. manual port forward
  • static IP address for the PMS (IP reservation) enabled
  • public IP of your router can be reached from outside your home network at the given port (32400 for UPnP; the defined port in case of a manual port forward) – e.g. using canyouseeme.org
  • no content / port blocking within your home network

Canyouseeme.org is giving me
Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port 32400

Mod-Edit: removed public IP

ok… in that case the issue seems to be somewhere on the way from the internet to your router.
You can try assigning a different public port (manual port forward) and see if you can reach that. If that’s working, it could be your ISP has “raised some walls” to increase your security (or to discourage you from streaming so much  )
Some ISPs lock down specific ports or only open up certain ports they deem secure. Let’s first check if that’s the case…

Thanks!

I have tried it on a few devices including my cell phone with the same result

Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port ( 3389 )
Reason: Connection timed out

For manual port forward what port would you recommend? i have tried Canyouseeme with a bunch or random ports

Equipment Fiber internet to
Ubnt EdgeLite Router https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXT8EKE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

to

Dlink switch https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K4DS67C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mod-Edit: you don’t want to publicly post your public IP address…

From your post it’s not clear to me if you actually enabled that port (tcp/3389) on your router as a public port or if you only checked if it’s open?!

Side quest… I take it that Ubnt EdigeLite router is connected to the internet and is the only device assigning local IP addresses inside your home network? (=the DLink switch is actually a switch and not establishing a sub network inside your home network, causing a Double NAT situation)

Hmm all starting to make since about 2 weeks ago i realized my old switch was not gigabit so i swapped it out. I thought the router assigned all IP addresses internally

Here is a screenshot of what i setup for port forwarding, i am not sure if it is correct.

I have this switch sitting on a rack unused if that would help

as well as an older Cisco Catalyst 10/100 which i was using before with no issues but was slowing down my whole network

Correction i thought i still had the other TP link unmanaged switch but i think i gave it away a few years ago.

If my switch is not assigning a subnetwork, how would i go about fixing that?

RDP as an external port is quite curious. The Forward-to port should be 34200, typo maybe.

As Tiebierius pointed out… the Forward-to port must be 32402.
In addition – please double check that you also checked Manually specify public port and specified the original port from your port forwarding rules (in this case 3389).

If that still fails with canyouseeme.org you might want to contact your ISP and ask them if they maybe filter/block some of that communication.

I am confused on the port forwarding…

So i swapped back to my old Cisco switch and im green now for fully accessible. but i am still getting issues on canyouseeme.org aka the same results.
