I’d been sticking to 10.3.xx after trying a couple flavors of 10.5 and getting burned each time with this issue still being there.
BUT I just took the chance and auto-updated to 10.6.0.5127 and it seems to have fixed the issue. Further, it seems to be handling DVR play/pause/skip back/forward better without hiccups and audio level issues I was having in 10.3 - 10.5.
