Unable to Retrieve Metadata for Shows

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527 (Installed in FreeNAS jail)
Player Version#: 1.6.3.1009-57cf57c8
TV-Show Agent: TheTVDB

I’m unable to retrieve any metadata for the show Servant (2019) and Cosmos - Possible Worlds (2020).
I’ve tried adding release years to the naming conventions, no luck.
Removing and adding “-” for Cosmos, no luck.

cosmos servant

Any ideas?

Can you confirm Plex has matched the shows?
This should help to identify if the issue is in matching or retrieving the metadata…
You can identify if a show has been matched…

  • by the presence of a Match option in the show’s context menu (vs. Fix Match if it has been matched)
  • by checking Get Info > View XML… the show’s unique identifier will be like local:/ if the show hasn’t been matched (vs. com.plex-app.agent.tvdb:/... if the show has been matched)

If the show is matched… any luck if you push it to refresh metadata?
If updating metadata fails, you could try to delete the agent cache (stop plex, delete the cache, restart plex, attempt to match / refresh metadata)

Cosmos Possible Worlds has changed to:

Cosmos (2014)/
....Season 02/
.......Cosmos (2014) - S02E01.xxx
and so on...

TVDB gotta be TVDB, I guess…

Servant required a Fix Match, if I recall correctly, but take Tom’s advice and dump the TVDB cache - can’t hurt, might help. Plex Dance Servant after that - See Below.

I may have gone to TMDB for that one, but honestly I can’t remember anything other than it wouldn’t match initially (it may have been too new at that point). There are a lot of shows with ‘Servant’ in the name, for whatever that’s worth.

If it refuses to cooperate - use the TVDB ID# 368126 in place of the name in a Search Options Lookup during Fix Match.

Fixed the Cosmos seasons using your conventions, thanks.

I’m attempting to find the folders suggested in the Linux guide, to clear the cache, but I don’t have the folders suggested in the exampled directory.

The $_PLEX_HOME part of the link is a placeholder that can vary depending on your distribution.
For common distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS or Fedora, the pass should be
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches/com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb/

Check out the support article below to determine the location of the Plex Media Server data directory if you’re using a different platform

This is what I have (SSH’d into the jail)
The cache folder visible in the /var/ screenshot is not related to metadata, but contains pkg data from previous versions. Just in case you’re wondering.

pms root var

So we’re not talking about a native Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora/CentOS…
Check out the support article above… if this is a FreeNas jail, the base path should be:

FreeNAS 11.2 or earlier

${JAIL_ROOT}/var/db/plexdata/Plex Media Server/

FreeNAS 11.3 or newer

${JAIL_ROOT}/Plex Media Server/

From there, go to…

./Plug-in Support/Caches/com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb/
