Using my Fire Stick with Plex server... I can't connect to MyPlex and libraries have disappeared

Server Version#:1.19.4.2935-79e214ead
Player Version#:8.2.1.18636

Everything was working fine 2 days ago in the afternoon. That evening I turned on Plex and there were no libraries/media. I’ve tried deleting the cache, uninstalling/reinstalling, power cycling the Firestick, unistalling/reinstalling the server, deleting all files having to do with Plex and starting over… repopulating all my media (huge and long process). I just installed the player from Amazon again, 4 character code… everything OK… still the same. It looks like I’m online… I can stream the movies/TV from the player. It asks me to reconnect… and fails. Unable to find MyPlex. I know the server is active… I can use the browser app and the desktop app… I know I have wifi to the TV… all other services work fine.

Any help?

I’ve been all over the internet and forums looking for a fix…

With the latest Fire Stick 4 OS (6.2.7.1/2495) and Plex Client (8.2.1.18636) that loads from Amazon I have had nothing but problems… Freezing, Blank screens, libraries wont load, Restarts…

All other clients working…

Edit; I also tried disabling the new player, helped a little…

when I look at the console I see this with variations of addresses and ports:

"
Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 7

HTTP error requesting GET http://192.168.1.1:1990/WFADevice.xml (7, Couldn’t connect to server) (Failed to connect to 192.168.1.1 port 1990: Bad access)

"

VPN is shut off.

I shut down the windows firewall to see if that was blocking my connection… no help

have you tried going in to sever settings/ Authorised Devices/server and remove the old server from the list. Then log out and in on the firestick to connect to your new installed server.

Then head to ‘More’ at the bottom of the sidebar and enter into another exciting and satisfying Pinning and Re-Ordering Session - and folks - that’s what makes Plex so much fun… (not).

I’ve tried everything I can think of…

Did this now and again… MyPlex is currently unavailable.

There was an update for the Firestick… Did that. Nothing changed.

Check the settings for secure connections on both your server and in the Firestick Plex app. Make sure they’re compatible. For example, if server set to required and Firestick set to disabled, then your server will show as unavailable.

If you make changes on either server or Firestick you might have to force quit the app on the FireStick (or just restart the Firestick) for things to take effect.

Ideally…:

Server = Preferred - not Required or Disabled
Client/FireTV App = Fallback on local network only

Then - when/if Plex.tv goes down and the Plexiverse is turned into a burnt-out cinder… you can still watch one of the crappiest shows or movies you have (or one of the best) with your FireTV (if you could before the outage) without further ado.

I promise - in as much as I can - so should you.

That won’t get you out of a very pleasant Pinning and Ordering Session.
Unfortunately - that’s baked into this cake and you gotta eat some of it (your slice has no icing and can be considered as ‘moist’ as The Sahara - same as my slice).

I went into the Firestick app and set it for this network only and the same in the Plex server app. I signed out of the TV app and uninstalled it and rebooted the firestick. I signed out of the server and closed it and rebooted my computer. Then I signed into the server on the desktop and made sure those settings were correct. I installed the firestick app and signed in and pinned it. Nothing. MyPlex is currently unavailable.

Then I went back to the TV and signed out and shut off the power to the TV and firestick for a few minutes. Went through this whole thing again. Nothing.

I have no idea why it was working one afternoon and then not that evening. I’ve spent 2 days trying to get it back.

You’re in the wrong place:

Server/Settings/Network
Preferred.

Plex app on FireTV
Fallback to insecure on local network only

Restart everything.
Sign out of FireTV - Sign back in.

Fallback to insecure only in the Plexweb player is useless - Plexweb is dead during an outage.

it’s set to preferred and firestick to local network…

starting everything again

I found I can get access to the server through the relay setting but it transcodes everything… It’s usable but not ideal…

Your network has failed.

@BigWheel
should be able to find out what’s going on.

not sure how my network has failed when everything else works just fine…

I tried Emby and Jellyfin and neither would find those servers…

so it seems I’m blocking streaming/DLNA somehow…

I reset the firewall to default and it asks to allow Plex media server when I started that but still am only able to use that relay setting

I’ll bet @FordGuy61 has a few tricks up his sleeve…

Networking is right out of my wheelhouse - and I’m just glad mine works…lol

Some thoughts:

Have you tried power cycling all your equipment? Routers, etc sometimes need a reboot just like computers. Shutdown your modem, router, Plex server, etc. Power them on, one at a time, starting with what is closest to the Internet (cable modem, etc), then any routers & switches, then your Plex server. Make sure each piece is up & running before proceeding. Then power cycle the wifi clients - fire sticks, etc.

It is a workaround, but you could try enabling remote access. Your local clients would show up as remote, using your public IP address (instead of Plex Relay). Set all remote streaming limits in Plex Server and clients to maximum/original to eliminate any bandwidth constraints. You’ll also want to check the box for Treat WAN IP As LAN Bandwidth in Server Settings -> Network. The traffic should hairpin inside your router and never actually hit the Internet or count against any data caps. If you’ve a data cap you’ll want to verify traffic levels with your ISP (many have self-serve web pages to show traffic usage).

Some other things to check:

  1. Check for AP Isolation in your router. If enabled, it would prevent wireless devices from talking to each other and to LAN devices. Note that it would affect all WiFi devices. None of them would connect to your Plex server, so if any WiFi clients are working, this is not an issue.

  2. Set your router to use public DNS servers instead of your ISP DNS servers. Use Google, 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4, or Cloudflare, 1.1.1.1. You’ll need to restart your Plex server & clients so they can pick up the new DNS settings.

  3. See the DNS Rebinding info in How to Use Secure Server Connections for other rebinding remedies such as DNSMASQ. If you didn’t have to deal with this before, then probably not an issue, but never hurts to check.

when I typed my last comment, I thought… check how to run DLNA media server in windows… which took me to a little window that allowed me to turn on media streaming… I don’t think I’d seen that before but I clicked that to turn it on.

Then I went to ‘allow media streaming through firewall’ which took me to a troubleshooter. which looked at both the firewall and vpn.

I went into the firestick app and checked all the settings… max… fall back and signed out and uninstalled it. I went into the server and deleted all the authorized devices and signed out of the server. I rebooted the firestick and my computer. I signed into the server and opened the program on my desktop. Everything fine… I installed the app on the firestick and signed in…

Everything is there.

I have no idea how that ‘allow media streaming’ might have got changed, if it did but I believe that’s where the problem was. Then it was a matter of installing things again and signing out and in.

Thanks to the forum folks for your patience and all the help. FordGuy… you’re way over my head. I’ve never gone that deep into networking. But I will copy and paste that to save for when this all goes sideways again.

FordGuy… on a completely unrelated topic…

I’m unable to access my router from my desktop browser… Asus RT-A66U.

192.168.1.1 doesn’t get in… unable to find site…

router.asus.com the same…

I can get in from my phone, or tablet…

Can I pick your networking brain for 1 more minute? Thanks.

I don’t have any of that - you don’t want to be here if my network fails - there’s much impatience/cussing/throwing of things/etc…lol

Glad you found it
