Using Plex on AppleTV without internet?

I found this article [HowTo] Use Plex with No Internet

it talks about a few things but not specifically about appletv.

Question: If you configure your plex media server as it talks about it there. Can you stream your plex content from your plex media server to your plex client on appletv without internet access. Just LAN access?

thanks

You could test it yourself by disconnecting your router from the outside world, leaving the LAN up.

Thanks for the response. I’m curious if anyone has successfully done so in the community so I’m not repeating something someone has already done and failed.

I haven’t tested it fully, but we lost internet over the summer and my Plex was unaffected because the LAN was still up. I didn’t try logging out then back in, though.

So does that mean you were able to view your plex content on the appletv (plex app) also?

thanks.

Much like nookum I have tested it to the extent that when my internet connection inevitably drops out during a storm I’ve been forced to see if it works. My Plex continues to function and the only functionality that I have noticed that gets lost is the ability to switch users.

thanks for the response. Could you share if you setup is plex server with the appletv plex app when internet was lost?

Yes I have a Plex Server on a WD NAS and also on a Mac mini M1 (with external HD library). They are both on the same local network as the Apple TV. I was using the Apple TV Plex app when the internet was lost and the content continued to play as expected. I have also been able to load up the Plex app after the network was lost and start playing content, just only using the current logged in user, as previously mentioned.

Great! Thanks for the details. Greatly appreciate it.
