Video plays for a second and ends

It seems to be happening more and more often.
Seems to be lots of different clients.
I am using a Fire TV, Plex server is on windows, and the library is stored on a QNAP NAS

Same issue. Sony Android TV. Annoying but not a dealbreaker.

I have same issue I Start Episode Pause Wait Few Seconds and then Play and seems to work. Super Annoying!!!

I have the same issue but it seems to only be on the Fire Stick other clients seem ok, the server is on ubuntu!

Trying to get some help from Plex employees

@antoniolg can you help?

Happens for me on Fire TV stick, very annoying.

Curious, so it looks like server isn’t a factor, and happening on many clients, is it safe to say NAS storage isn’t a commonality we all share?

Having same issue on my android device sometimes, plays one second.

My storage is local to the server. This very well could be an Android issue and not server, but the Plex devs are not really responding.

If it is Android/Android TV they could move the thread… Please o:)

Same issue on FireTV Stick.

This has been happening to us for a little while now. It feels like it started happening since the Android 8 update to our Nexus Player. This doesn’t happen on the web player. We have found that there are two distinct instances of the problem, but we always try to pause the video before it kicks us back.

  1. We pause as soon as the video plays and the orange bar does not start filling up (buffering the stream I am assuming). Unpausing forces the video to stop and go to the next or the current one if there is no next.

  2. We pause as soon as the video plays and the orange bar starts to fill up. Unpausing when there is enough buffer to play prevents the video from stopping like in the first case

Help us Plex, you’re our only hope!!

Same issue here - Sony Android TV.

Same issue. It has happened randomly for the last couple of months and it’s really annoying!
Sony XBR43X8330C Android TV.

It has nothing to do with Windows, but with the Android client. The solution is to rollback on your Android device to Plex version 6.12 by sideloading it. There’s plenty of threads in the Android TV forum about this.

I have had it happen when playing videos directly on my Android and Amazon tablet as well. But I play videos much less often on these devices.

Rolling back is not a fix and the Plex devs should acknowledge that they are already aware and looking into it…

adding another bump to this.

2 things going on in my case:
a. Video will not start at all (spins) on black screen at play. Workaround is to hit the back button and start again, and the video plays immediately. I do not recall this happening any other time except when resuming a video.
b. Video will start and then abruptly end, with the system acting as if the video has played to completion and the next video starts the countdown queue to play. Workaround is to arrow over to the previous video and restart. This only seems to happen on a 1st play and not when resuming.

This has happened for me on Android TV (2 Shields) and android mobile clients (Fire tablet and Samsung phone). Its pretty bad when you have to do an extra step almost every time you start a video, especially for new users (explaining to new babysitters is especially painful).

This happens every time I try and play a video on my nexus player android tv. I have stopped using the android app since the quality has tanked so much in the last few months.

Same issue with my amazon fire sticks.

Same issue with Sony Android TV. Exactly the same thing that for @notsky

I guess it is related to the Android app, as my server is under Mac OS X.

I’m so glad I found this thread. Been having this issue for the last couple months, but it seems like the last couple weeks it has been happening on almost every show selected. Haven’t had it happen via Chromecast or on the web player.

Android TV - will have to check OS version and plex is on the latest app release.
