I’m trying to set up my plex server but after I install the required software and run it the web app never recognizes any media I have on my drive. I’ve tried rebooting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the software to no prevail. I want to watch my media I have on my computer on my PlayStation in the living room.
Server Version#: 1.30.0.6442 (x64)
Player Version#: 4.95.2
Make sure you have your media files named and organized per Plex requirements. Otherwise, they may not be properly recognized by Plex Media Server.
Plex Documentation → Your Media
→ Naming & Organizing Your Movie Files
→ Naming & Organizing Your TV Show Files
Yes it’s all organized how plex recommends. It’s Media → TV Shows → specific TV shows same way with movies.
In the web app under media it says add your media to plex and provides a link to download the server. It’s almost like there’s no communication between the webapp and my desktop.

Enter this in a browser on the same computer you installed the server on
You should be prompted to claim your server
Then you should be able to start setting up your libraries
I just tried this and still nothing. Under “my media” it still gives me the same message.
In an incognito browser try this using the ip address of the machine the server is on

You need to unclaim/reclaim the server:
- Stop Plex Media Server.
- Go to Authorized Devices: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms
- If your server is listed, delete it.
- Then follow this document to reclaim your server: You need to reclaim your server, but don’t dare to touch the Windows Registry
Alternate Step 4: Edit the Windows Registry yourself. See Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?
You should then be able to run Plex Media Server and claim it via http://127.0.0.1:32400/web.
Thank you! This worked!
