Does it support music videos as the old app did?
Does it support FireTV or other platforms as the old app did?
I am using FireTV all over the place - also for music.
This feature removal will be killing music usage via Plex once this new experience drama reaches FireTV.
Yes, I know that. Plexamp doesn’t work. It’s garbage. And then they want you to pay more for it.
I don’t understand the point. Why throw so many resources at redesigning something that worked perfectly fine? Latest iOS client update is a confusing mess.
I think they are standardizing on a single codebase that works across multiple platforms in order to provide better support. Migrating from 2 or 3+ code bases for various applications into a single one isn’t an easy task, nor is it usually fast. That being said, it’s usually done as an opt in beta, but as others have said, this appears to be a “get it done by April 29th since we’re making all these sweeping changes for Plex Pass and remote streaming stuff” thing.
I don‘t know what you mean. Plexamp is the finest music software I‘ve ever used. It even outperforms the much pricier Roon ARC.
Support for Plexamp is helpful and fast with lots of new functions in the last months, thanks to @elan
What is your problem with Plexamp?
I suspect a lack of knowledge is the issue here. Plexamp doesn’t cost extra anymore, only certain features are paywalled. I’ve got a raspberry pi + DAC hooked up to my receiver and couldn’t be happier. Every plexamp install is both a control point and renderer in one, it’s great. If I’m listening to music on my phone, I can sit down at my computer and just start controlling the music from there without changing how I’m listening. The UI is similar to commercial apps + a nice bunch of audiophile features. A good music UI is so radically different than what is needed in plex that it doesn’t make any sense to maintain a music player there. I suppose you can always use jellyfin if it’s a deal breaker for you. Or emby. Plenty of choice out there.
This terrible, my iPhone app updated and now I all of the servers that I try to reach are no longer showing and say that they are outdated. I went to all of my Plex Media servers and in General it says that everything is up to date
Come on - WHAT GIVES
What support are you talking about? It was rolled out with no instructions - not even FAQs. Just a snarky “you’ll figure it out.”
None of the “cool” things you mention work. No guidance, no FAQs, no help. I shouldn’t have to start a thread for basic info on why the bleeping app doesn’t work.
It’s not an FAQ or guide, but here are the basic steps to get started with Plexamp.
- Download and install Plexamp from your platform’s app store.
- Open Plexamp; on initial launch it will ask you to sign in with your Plex account.
- After you sign in, you’ll be asked to pick which of your available music libraries you’d like to start with.
- After selecting the library, you should see the main interface.
The tabs along the bottom are, in order:
- Home. This shows suggestions such as mixes, “radios,” most played, history, etc. Tapping almost any image on this screen will start music playback.
- Library (a note icon). This allows you to browse your library by artist, album, track, playlists, collections, and others. This is a good place to start if you prefer browsing your library similar to the old app.
- Search (magnifying glass). You can perform traditional searches here. This is also where the “Sonic Adventure” feature I mentioned previously lives. Sonic Sage requires a Open AI key, so I wouldn’t recommend that right off.
- Downloads. If you’ve downloaded any music, it will appear here.
- Settings. Sane defaults are generally chosen, so you shouldn’t need to do anything here initially.
Hope that helps a bit.
The new Plex app on iPhone and iPad: the Hungarian language of the app has disappeared, the live TV function does not work: the TV show logos have disappeared, the EPG is there, but the channels do not start, or only a few. The EPG freezes even then. I haven’t even looked at it on other devices. It’s shocking that they release something that works half-way as if it were a beta. Shame. That’s not what we paid for!
This concerns the use of your Plex Player App on both my iPhone and iPad with the most current IOS. I Think that this is a terrible interface. Without the choice to install the new app or not, we are not apparently faced with the requirement to use TWO different apps depending on whether you want to view photos or videos. Also, there does NOT appear to have a method to organize the libraries or servers in the order you would like them. In addition, there seems to be a push to splash advertising of streaming movies/tv series/etc and no way to suppress these.
I have three different Plex Media Servers, two on synology NAS devices and one on a Mac Studio with most current OS installed. On the video Plex app, it is telling me that ALL of my servers are out of date and that I need to update them to at least 1.41.2 or above. My servers are currently updated to 1.41.6+ as far as I can tell.
I want the old version back. It places ALL of my videos & Photos within my reach.
This JUST stinks.
Thanks for the kind words, we do try hard!
Or just a general movement of cheese
We reply to virtually every post in the forum here tagged with Plexamp, and work directly with people to figure out issues, and many times implement requests. So yeah, pretty great support (or at least we try).
This thread [How To] Plexamp 4.6.1 - Settings is a great starting point to learn more about all the features in the app.
Let us know what you’re running into and we’d be happy to help.
I just came to add my dissenting voice.
My app auto updated, I wish I’d seen this beforehand.
The app is buggy as hell, and I have to kill it and re-launch frequently.
The timeline when playing something back isn’t working, I couldn’t fast forward using it, or see any visualisation of progress.
The lack of download filtering (“Next 3 unplayed episodes”) for a show is just a bizarre omission in my opinion.
Thank you. I do appreciate the effort, but that has already been done. I just want to listen to my entire library on “total random”. And it doesn’t work.
So again, it’s useless for my purposes.
Thanks for the response though.
That should work perfectly, I do it all the time. What exactly is not working?
tl:dr: Please remove the bottom tray and carousel entirely to free up screen space and put in a hamburger menu. Pretty please!
This app rollout is so messy and it’s really starting to drive me crazy.
I get things “working” and then the next day an update comes out and it’s different again. My main complaint is the interface is just not that great to navigate, specifically when it comes to switching libraries. I much prefer the hamburger menu with all the libraries just right there. Two taps, that’s it.
Now it appears another update just rolled out and introduced a libraries carousel that cannot be disabled and it’s genuinely icky to look at, but it does get to the libraries faster… so there’s that I guess. Still, I don’t understand why a simple hamburger menu couldn’t solve all the issues.
As it stands right now the bottom tray is just useless except for the home button. Please re-think this design a lot before pushing out another update. Carousel or Tray, not both.
I’ve just downloaded the new version, just because the iPad told me to do it; it doesn’t work at all, everything look fine, but the movie and tv shows don’t start. I’ve tried everything, but what works for ten years without a single problem, suddenly it’s completely useless. I really hope Plex fire the genius behind this masterpiece
I agree with you regarding the library carousel being obtrusive and annoying. The navigation to get between libraries isn’t difficult and the real estate of the home screen shouldn’t be taken up with those library options. Silly.
