What do people think of the official response to the terrible New Plex Experience rollout?

Another feature I relied on (albeit probably an edge case) is playing media with the screen off, I use this when overnights when I struggle to sleep, being forced to have the screen on using energy, overheating phone and trying to hide the glare is a real pain.

Glad it’s working well for you! Toss in JellyPlex-Watched to sync watch history bidirectionally to/from Plex and you’re golden!

FYI for those wanting to check syncing watched between plex/emby/jellyfin:
* PlexTraktSync: Works with or without Plex. Syncs via Trakt.
* JellyPlex-Watched: No Trakt. Direct sync between Plex ↔ Jellyfin.

Since this update to plex I’m unable to use plex software, since the update I

  • cannot use my https traefik proxy for watch (I didn’t have a port open so I’ve used wireguard to portforward with SSL) - was working like fire until I’ve updated
  • Can’t maximize player window on iOS.

I’ve moved from jellyfin over a year ago (and I’ve been using plex for over 2 years alongside jellyfin). The only thing that plex got better than jellyfin was

  • no need to configure 1000 things to get most basic features to work (subtitles, converted playback, converted downloads, live tv etc)
  • works on all platforms

That’s why I’ve moved over to plex, and I’m really happy that I didn’t push my Jellyfin friends over to plex now because the software is borderline unusable - with one update it went from decent to unusable. How could you possibly do a full rollout of something that is so bad?

I’ve spent around 4 hours figuring out why plex is working on all platforms except for my iOS phone, and at this moment I’ve decided to bring back my old jellyfin setup - as I simply don’t have that much time to fight with software that 1) I pay for 2) Main selling point is “being easier” as now it’s harder to use and harder to configure.

“some basic features” like “playing video.”

I just got the update late last week, and it’s making me want to move to Jellyfin.

The mobile app itself seems to work well, as long as I’m sticking with just the phone I’m trying to play the media on. however, here’s where the issues begin.

Casting stopped working altogether for a little while. Had to allow that one domain on my pihole in order for casting to even show up.

I can’t “shuffle play” while casting. It completely ignores my connected chromecast and shuffle plays on the app itself.

The removal of the “music” library doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Plexamp is amazing, and I’ve been using it since it first came out. but the shuffle play and chromecast problems are a massive big deal, and with the licensing change, I’m heavily considering going to Jellyfin.

This is really sad, because I’ve been using Plex for years, and have had a Plex pass for a long time now, but this app really needs reworking. I downgraded the app for the time being, but this isn’t always an option. Thankfully Android still allows sideloading applications.

Please, Plex, fix your app. You’re going to lose a massive userbase if you don’t.

I can’t believe I just bought the lifetime pass! I use subtitles for everything I watch and it used to be quick to find them. Now it is showing me subtitles for different shows. I have to hit that CC button everytime, and it isn’t easy to get back out and change them if I have picked the wrong one.
After all that, the CC button only displays when I cast to my LG tv and not my Sony Bravia.
Did you guys test this update at all???
Tonight I am going to try the old app which someone has kindly posted up here and see whether it is going to work.
Put up a poll and ask how many people would like it rolled back to the previous version!

They’re probably not looking back.

Nope, they will just ignore the problems until they can “fix” the new app. They certainly will not acknowledge the fact the new app was pushed out WAY to early.

Honestly, if it’s early enough, refund that. I tried refunding my lifetime subscription last time this happened, but I was already several years in. I would not buy the software with the app experience being what it is today.

As bad as it could be. The response is pretty much a non response.

Combined with what appears to be Plex employees attempting to influence the ratings on the Google Play Store I’d say this speaks volumes.

I was surprise, it was a downgrade from previous version. The photo apps was so basic it missing a lot of mandatory feature like download for example.

Definitely seems like a downgrade to me. Contrary to their statements it’s less functional, less intuitive, and to make it worse it’s laggy and bug ridden. I don’t think they can polish this turd.

Been a plexpass member since it came out. Moving to jellyfin. Its over. Between this monstrosity of an update, splitting the perfect all in one media app into 3 hideous apps, and the devs arrogance in the face of customer complaints, I’m finally done. They have shown they will no longer listen to the customers, and that we are nothing but subscriptions to them. The magic is gone, the ride is now ending. It was wonderful while it lasted, but it’s over. They’ve gone to the dark side.

1 disaster after another

We went from stable software to the current unstable alpha software.
But we will be ignored, as usual.

There is no going back. Tthe steam engine cannot be stopped.

But it got worse from the first release.
I payed for this software, and I am being used as alpha tester.

If I would do that to my clients, I would be fired on the spot.
Should the media become involved, is that what you want?

Should we start complaining to techcrunch, wired and engadget before you wake up?

It’s a crap. The app now it is no longer usable in some of my devices. Not just only snail slow it can handle to reproduce already reproduced content.

Mine got updated while I was on vacation and I discovered the update after I had boarded a plane to go home. I had been logged out by the update so I could not even access the media that I had spent hours downloading to my device. I had to sit through the entire flight with no entertainment because all of the movies, TV shows and music I had downloaded were blocked by a login screen that would just spin indefinitely due to no internet connection. This makes Plex completely useless for this scenario, I’m deleting all the downloaded content and downloading it manually into a folder so I can play it with VLC.

Have you tried Infuse?
