One has not anything to do with the other.

It is also fine and even recommended to put every movie into its own, individual subfolder.

What is not recommended is to then add each of these subfolders by itself to the library, instead of just their common “parent” folder.

I received a message for the PLEX CLIENT, saying that it would only be possible to access the contents/categories if I update the PLEX SERVER to the latest version. After updating, the problem continues, it is not possible to add, edit, or remove new contents, PLEX does not allow me to SAVE THE CHANGES.

Funny, they waste time creating an impediment to watching and do not allow me to add anything else.

In a lot of cases, the failure to save changes is caused by a network related issue (inability to contact plex.tv correctly), although there may be other causes such as adding every individual folder to your library settings.

Reboot your modem/router and every thing connected to it, including any wireless devices.

Make sure you reboot the NAS and when you access Plex/Web, make sure you do so by typing: http://NAS-IP-ADDRESS:32400 into your browser.

Then, fingers crossed, you should be able to save changes, edit, etc.

If not, then please provide non-verbose Plex server logs showing your attempts to Save Changes, so we may look into the issue for you.

No, that’s not it, if I install the previous version of PLEX SERVER I can add any content normally, when I update the version, it is simply not possible to add, change, remove after clicking SAVE CHANGES.

Then you may have a database issue that is causing the problem.

Go to DBRepair - ChuckPa and download Chuck’s Database Repair Tool.

Instructions for it’s usage can also be found at the link above.

Run the tool, make a backup and then repair your DB’s, then try Save Changes etc. again.

Also, version 1.41.8.9834 has just been released and in the release notes this was stated:

  • (Database) Some database clean up operations could fail during server start up (PM-3532)

That may be part of your issue, so make sure you update to the 1.41.8.9834 beta version.

Are shows still being added one at a time ? (The length of the string for all directories listed in a section = 32KB)

Independent of PMS version –
Are you listing each show / movie, one by one, in the library section?

If you are –

  1. Create a new section using only the parent folder name, not each individual.
  2. PMS will pull info from the existing into the new
  3. When it’s complete, confirm the contents are the same
  4. DELETE the old section
  5. RENAME the new section to take the place of the old section.

The root problem here is not version. The root problem is the resultant URI (list of names) is > 32KB in length. Normal usage is less than 2KB for the vast majority of users (which would be up to about 8 top level directories)

I came across this recently and had the same problem. I went back to an older version and that fixed it. However, there was a more recent server update (last week in June 2025) & it seems part of the problem, was…it said before…there’s a more updated version and I installed those manually (all except for one of those, worked without issue).

When it told me I could update, without manually installing it, I did that and it worked like we wanted it to and it lets me add the folders without issue. I hope that helps a bit. The version I am talking about is 1.109.0.329-ea562b95

1.109 sounds like the desktop app or other app version.

PMS versions are in the 1.32.x → 1.41.x range and visible in Settings - Server - General.

Usually, when changes cannot be saved, it’s a network problem.
– DNS not resolving
– Gateway (modem/router) not responding in a timely manner
– Some other network related burp.

Do you have the PMS SERVER logs ZIP file please ?

If you try to make the change, which recreates the failure,
then Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs

Save and attach the ZIP file it gives you here so we can look at it and diagnose.
