Wrong shows showing & Subtitles not loading

Hi All,

Having two issues with Plex - Latest Server running on Win 10, player is Amazon Fire Cube.
First is subtitles won’t play - easily. If I enable subtitles, when I go to play the show or movie, it says a network connection was encountered and to try again. If I turn off subtitles, it will then play. I can often then pause, turn on subtitles, and resume playback and it will work.
Second issue is whatever logic Plex is using to ‘name’ movies is wrong. I can get some examples if it will help, but not sure how Plex determines the show / Movie name? I get most everything from Sonarr or Radarr, but say like Terminator 3 is showing as Ace Ventura, if I recall. A number of TV shows are showing completely wrong names too. It’s usually pretty consistent throughout the season showing the same incorrect name for each show. Any suggestions on how to fix this without renaming the shows? I can provide examples if it would help. Thanks

Thanks for the info… I’ll have to dive deeper when I get home. But here’s what I found (I’m still new to Plex)… So for the movies that are incorrect, I went to the movie, hit edit, and under the Info tab, it shows * G:\Plex_gsdata_\2189e94ec9777f0273fcd6bc42e13b0c.mkv . I definitely don’t recall seeing a gsdata folder under G:\Plex. Is that something plex created?
For the TV shows, I looked under Edit, but there is no info tab to see the filename ?

Did you move your Plex data folder to G: ?

This folder name doesn’t look familiar. It may have been created by other software.

Yeah I did… So not sure where that folder came from but cleared it up. But STILL seeing incorrect names. I renamed almost all shows. Now, EVERY show shows as “The Boys” but has the Family Guy picture. And for file info, a number of them shows multiple file names.
I did a scan Library files. Still same. Attached are two screenshots.

The Boys - S2E7 is actually 12 Monkeys - S02E07 - Meltdown.mkv
The Boys - S2E8 is two different shows.

Make sure that the library is only pointing to this one folder: G:/Plex/TV Shows

Then perform the Plex Dance with the affected shows. Plex incorrectly identifying TV episodes

Wow, I think it’s working! Thank you! Installed Ember Media Manager and did a cleanup, then did the dance!

Any suggestions on subtitles causing a “Network error”? If I enable subtitles, I get a Network error, please try again. If I disable subtitles, I can play the video, then pause it, then enable subtitles.

And (Sorry) last thing - any update that you know of for playing 4k video on fire cube? I believe it’s 30 FPS issue. Only thing I’ve found is to use Kodi, but it seems like a lot of work for a workaround?

Both should be issues with the Android TV app, which are already reported.

Check that you don’t have a DNS rebinding issue in your network. https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/
(Scroll down to “Why doesn’t it work?”)

ok so my mistake - when the closed caption is on, it doesn’t say a network error, it just says an error occurred . I went to that link . I switched my DNS to both opendns and google. And secure connection was on proffered. Still not able to play videos with subtitles or 4k/30 video :frowning:
