Same issue for me. Atmos capable, all of the sudden no audio. Turned off Display Mode Switching, and worked.

I just saw your reply and checked my Xbox. My Plex app was on my internal. Moving to external did fix the audio issue.

How do I disable display mode switching on xbox one X? I looked around in settings but can’t find anything and still have no sound in plex on xbox.

I had the same trouble finding this till I realised it wasn’t in the xbox settings but the plex settings in the app!

Go to where you select your library, then go all the way across till you can select your username then settings, then from there it’s in the “video” section of this.

Presumably “Display Mode Switching” did something useful and desirable, otherwise it wouldn’t exist in the first place. As such, is this workaround only to be temporary? If so, when is the permanent fix coming?

Add me to the list of disabling “Display mode switching” on the Plex app on Xbox One X fixed the problem.

Thank you all so much for this thread. Add me as well to the list of disabling Display mode switching" to get sound back on all my Plex movies! Plex staff, I think you have a bug you really need to fix! I had stopped using Plex the last few days and started to use the terrible Xbox Movies app over DLNA. Terrible interface, but it worked.

I have this issue, and I think it has to do with my TV. I have a Vizio M50-D1.

If I leave the TV’s ‘Digital Audio Out’ setting to Auto, it won’t work. If I manually set the TV to bitstream then the audio will play.

I have the Xbox One S set to output Stereo uncompressed, and Plex says the audio is EAC3 5.1.

Not 100% sure what the settings for the Xbox and TV should be, but previously I never changed these and audio worked in Plex w/o issue.

Just had this issue on my new Xbox One X. Disabling display mode switching is still required it seems.

Disabling display mode switching did nothing for me. Does anyone else have any tips ?

Even using the DLNA server I get the same issue. It’s working on my other clients so I’m not sure what the problem is.

I had the exact same issue. Plex configured on my PC, wired into my gbit home ethernet, Xbox one x wired into home ethernet as well, running plex. I got video but no audio. I read on this thread a reply by ‘derekhkutton’ that the problem (for me) was display mode switching. After turning DMS off, plex returned to normal. I think it’s because my TV (Hisense R6107, 55" Roku smart tv) does not support 50hz refresh rate, only 24hz and 60hz. Glad to get this sorted out
