I set up the Plex Media Server on my Ubuntu machine and was able to connect to it via Android and Xbox One. After rebooting, every time I try to connect to the server via Xbox One I get "Unexpected Error".
I reinstalled the server and re-scraped all my media and it worked again. The next morning when I tried to connect after a fresh boot of both xbox and the server, I get the error again. It worked and still works fine from Android.
Network is fine, Xbox Test Network is good.
Server Version 0.9.11.1
Web Version 2.2.8
I have attached a pic of the error and logs.
I don't know if this helps but the Devices link in the server web app that was supposed to be on the right of Web and Server is no longer there.
Found out it was when include in dashboard was checked xbox one gave the error. I wanted the dashboard so I kept on with the trial and error. I optimized the database and everything worked. The whole time the android client had no issues, it was just the xbox one.
I dont understand about the dash board ?? do you mean when its pinned to dashboard ??
Symptoms:-
Video plays for short period of time then error message "unexpected error. An unexpected error occurred. Please check your device is connected to your network and try again." (Please see VH-BIL Image on 12 November 2014 - 09:52 AM) if i press retry video continues to play for a short period of time (1-2 minuets) then issure re arises !
Device is connected to the network and no problem with server of laptops.(latest update is also being used)
I then created another server on another computer and same thing happens.
I have uninstalled the xbox app and hard reset the xbox then reinstalled to no success.

Can someone please help.
I am having the same issue and I don't understand the bit about the dashboard if that truly solved the problem.
Is there a better fix coming? I can't get through a TV show or movie without getting the 'Unexpected Error' multiple times. Havent had any problems on the Win8 client or through my Samsung TV.

Any further information on this?? I get the unexpected error message a lot when watching something in plex on Xbox One. Sometimes its really bad and happens every couple of minutes. Sometimes its every 10-15 minutes. Plex works perfectly fine on my Roku...
Symptoms: today (v 0.9.11.7) I tried to connect from my kids account and received same error. Go Home or Retry does not help. Error was different (version 0.9.10.3 or higher is required). It was about version of the server. Nonsense right? Switched to my account and the back to kids. Same behavior.
Resolution:
1. Pressed menu button on the controller and switched users. Navigate same way to about screen.
2. Went using sticks to the button with name of the server in the upper right corner of the screen and selected one available server.
3. Switched to kids account did the same - everything started to work.
I really have no idea what helped, however it seems that at some point when playing with selection of the server, server information was refreshed.
So my theory is such that server information is cached per account on xb1 storage. And this means that you may probably face problems when upgrading servers. Problems may retain per account. This means several possible workarounds:
1. Reinstall Plex on xb1
2. switch plex servers on xb1 to enable cache refresh.
For what its worth, I had the exact same problem late last year.
We went on a short holiday over Christmas and new year and unplugged everything from the wall socket when we left.
The problem seems to be gone now.
Try shutting down the console and unplugging your XBox for about 30 mins from the wall socket and then plug it back in and give it a try to see if you still having issues.
