I am currently experiencing this error as well. Some files play fine then some will play for 45 seconds and stutter then my one shuts off.
This is driving me absolutely crazy. Is anyone looking into this? I had to hook a PC up to my TV to get a working experience before my pregnant wife killed me after Plex killed my xbox 7x times while she tried to watch one episode of Greys Anatomy

We have spoken to MS about this, and have forwarded on console IDs that have been PM'd to me to them. It shouldn't be possible for our app to take down the whole console (but I don't want to just blame the platform, maybe we can do some workarounds).
They have previously identified (and I believe fixed) some issues around here, so please continue sending us your Console ID, time of problem and details of the media you were playing back.

I now have 4 family members with this problem. all on Separate Xbox Ones.
It only started happening a couple weeks ago (may be after the Plex Music Server release?) and also seems to ONLY effect mkv files.
I don't think it's a platform problem. No other app is crashing my Xbox, just Plex.
I am still experiencing this issue. There are times were I can watch movies for a week then all of a sudden it crashes and turns my one off.
Please can you send log files from PMS of when you play an mkv that crashes the app? We (currently) have to transcode mkv, so maybe we're triggering a platform issue with a change in our transcoder (I'm guessing here, but agreed that it seems a little suspect!).

This is still an issue for me, as other have mentioned it is intermittent and then occurs over and over. See attached for my log (3.65 mb). The last video streamed had this issue for me.
I tried replaying the same video on my xbox one and it crashed again, which you can see at the end of the second attached log (4.04 mb).

This just happened repeatedly to me while trying to watch a tv show. Yet all day yesterday it didn't happen once. Crazy
Can you reproduce it with this TV show ?
If yes please upload the file or a sample for the devs to look at.

I just had the same problem last night. I was playing a 1080p MKV and it was working just fine, then froze and a full power down. Upon hitting the power button, the xbox proceeded to do a full boot including the green start screen.
It happened several times and I ended up using my amazon fire stick which worked perfectly.
This is happening to me all the time now. As stated it is just crazy. I was tested several different movies/shows/whatever mkv definitely at 1080p is a crash problem. It'll play for a bit then get that stutter step, if my controller is on when this happens i can close the app prior and beat the crash but the app is killing me at this point.
I have no other way to watch on my main TV and everywhere else works perfectly. I have to remove my Apple TV that I use constantly to replace it with another device in order to watch this just sucks. I see that we were told to PM the ID.
I am also on Wireless. Posting here in hopes that a solution can be found that is reliable otherwise I have to figure out what to do .. The app on the xbox is easier for me due to kinect lol

They ARE addressing it, send console ID and times of it happening so they can pass them to MS who can see what they are seeing on their end.
I know how hard it is to investigate issues that you can't replicate, give them a chance. In the meantime as it seems WiFi is a factor, see what you can do about improving your wireless signal to the XBone, it should reduce the occurance of the issue. If you're seeing the issue on Ethernet, check the cable quality.
This happened to me all the time, I couldn’t play high bitrate 1080p mkv’s. However, I had both my Xbox and PMS connected wirelessly. I moved my PMS next to the router and since the. This hasn’t happened once.
I don’t know if this helps the devs shed any light on this but obviously my network was struggling…
