Hello, I have a friend who is too proud, stubborn, or bullheaded to post on the forums for some unknown reason.
Does anyone have Comcast Xfinity w/ Unlimited Data and XFi security?
If so, do you have your Plex server up and running with direct access and not relay?
Did you have to call Comcast to accomplish that?
He’s apparently having an issue where he’s opened up the ports on their security webpage, but it’s blocking every IP that attempts to connect and they have to manually allow it… Anyone know what he’s talking about and where to go to shut this “Feature” off if that’s what’s causing his issues?
People can only access through relay… Any help is appreciated.
I had a similar issue when my wife brought home this Xfi modem. I had to sign-in to comcast.net, select internet, then select my Xfi and forward a port to my server. It’s actually quite easy once you find it on their webpage.
thanks for the reply, but I think you missed the third paragraph. He has already forwarded the Plex port… but it’s blocking every individual IP that attempts to connect, and then they have to go in and allow it… I believe it’s something with their XFi security suite, at least that’s what he says… I am on google fiber, with no such issues…
I just ran into this after upgrading my xfinity connection. I have the default plex port forwarded but have to allow ever pubic IP and these only work for 30 days before they have to be allowed again. There is a option in the xfi app under my services to turn the advanced security off. Working well so far with it disabled.
I was having same trouble with xFi “Advanced Security” blocking access to Plex (and only Plex) on my Synology NAS. I was able to access the NAS itself remotely, so I know it wasn’t a general block, but something peculiar to Plex.
I [THOUGHT] I was able to get it working again, by doing this:
In xFi’s web app, logged in and deleted all port forwards.
Logged in to my xFinity modem and made the IP address already checked out to the NAS a static IP (for an xFinity Arris TG1682G, choose Connected Devices, select the Plex server, then select “Reserved IP” button – similar procedure for other routers)
Logged into Plex app (from my computer), selected (server) settings, Remote Access, then first changed any manually configured public port back to 32400, THEN disabled remote access (checkbox).
Re-enabled remote access (which now automatically configures the public port). The public port now shows a Comcast public IP address like 98.196.x.x : nnnnn where nnnnn is the public port. Green message now says “Fully accessible outside your network.”
Logged back in to xFi and re-enabled “Advanced Security.” When I went back to Plex settings to check, Remote Access did not change back to red “Not available outside your network;” stayed green – so it appears to be working.
I am hoping it will stay unblocked for a while. If it doesn’t, I will report back. Let me know if it works for anyone else.
[UPDATE: @#%$ xFinity “Advanced Security” BLOCKED the ports again, the first time I accessed the server remotely - it didn’t do it immediately, but several minutes or hours later. The ONLY way to get Plex Remote Access working again was to disable Advanced Security. ]
This issue has been raised in the xfinity support forums as well for over 18 months. They acknowledge xAS blocks Plex but have not come back with a solution. Port forwarding and manual port assignment fails to work. Changing the port number also fails. Approving individual IP addresses to the port also fails.
The only present solution is to disable xfinity Advanced Security.
