What would be great is if Plex lists a movie once, but when you select it it then comes up with all the multiple different cuts that you've got in your PMS.
What would be great is if Plex lists a movie once, but when you select it it then comes up with all the multiple different cuts that you've got in your PMS.
Could be wrong, but I thought Plex did do that already, if you put the files in the same or a subfolder... I know it holds true for multiple versions of the same TV episode, as I have a few 480p and 720p versions of the same show hanging around, and it asks me on loading.
It does this for TV; not Movies, although playback position and watched/unwatched status are mirrored across all versions.
The current version of Plex can merge HD/SD versions of the same movie to one entry (well on Mac it can, not Linux PMS) but it doesn’t do anything about multiple cuts (directors cut, theatrical version, extended edition). Currently you just have them listed twice in your client, but I’d like it to merge them to one and offer you which cut to view once you select like it does about SD/HD.
I think if this sort of feature is offered, it'd be nice if in the manager we can 'name' what would appear in the 'which version to watch' popup that appears in the client.
The merge feature is designed for SD and HD versions. But as long as the movie has the ID number you could different versions of the same movie behind one poster at the same resolution, the problem is picking it from the list since it only shows you the resolution. If the ability was just given to name the versions instead of default resolutions you could then select the one you wanted (blu ray, Sd, Direct cut, local trailers anything)
This is what I said, but it got me thinking...
By allowing manual naming for different files, you could do something like this...
(I'll use Iron Man as an example.)
Iron Man 2008 1080p.mkv
Iron Man 2008 Comic Docu.mkv
Iron Man 2008 Behind the Scenes.mkv
Then in the media manager name them (Movie, Comic Documentary, Behind the Scenes) so you could not only stack multiple versions together, but extras also. Creating a single menu system that would allow multiple version of a film, along with extras.
+1 for a “related media” organizational system, so multiple cuts, DVD extras, etc. can be grouped into a single entry (i.e. folder) in the movies list.
+1! This is the feature I want to see the most in Plex!
Would also be great for normal/3D
e.g.
Avatar
Avatar 3D
I would love to see the Mac Feature added to other server versions like Windows.
In addition it should allow you to add to existing movie via Edit and as mentioned above it could be listed as so.
Pick Version
480p Standard Edition
480p Directors Cut
480p Extended Uncut Version
720p Standard Edition
720p 3D Edition
Just an example, it wouldnt have to detect it all automatically by adding an option to movies that show up twice ability to manually merge, I am sure plex could easily handle
that via the database and display those options
+1 on this as well. It’s currently available on the Mac PMS, but not for linux or windows. I have a few different versions of movies and right now they just show up as duplicates. I would like this feature extended to ALL PMS please!!
Yes Yes Yes Please.
This has bothered me for a while. For example, with Despicable Me I have the shorts named like this:
Yet in the Plex Client it displays 4 different 720P options and it's impossible to know what's what. This is a must have feature.
I have also wanted, for what seems like forever, the ability to name individual video files which have been “grouped”, rather than using the default video resolution only.

Would iike this to be supported. Now I have to split them all. No Big Deal but would be nice if it was done automatically.

Other interesting information: available languages, subtitles.
