1 out of 600+ movies will not import into Plex...help!

Running Plex on Synology.

For the life of me, I cannot see why this movie will not import.

My movies always import and any issues I have had in past are typically due to a mismatch in year from TMDB. For example: “the gods must be crazy” 1980 or 1984 depending on where released.

In this case, Jurassic World Dominion (2022) everything lines up.

I have all movies in \Movies\Movie Title (Year)\Movie Title (Year) - source-resolution.filetype

In this case: \Movies\Jurassic World Dominion (2022)\Jurassic World Dominion (2022) - Bluray-1080p.mkv

…but Plex refuses to see it.

How to troubleshoot this and/or any suggestions?

standard steps:

  1. verify permissions for the file are ok
  2. display the library By Folder and check what item you find in the Jurassic World Dominion (2022) folder
  3. check your library for Duplicates (via filter) to see if it got merged with another movie
  4. sort the library by Date Added and check if it’s been matched as some other movie

It’s usually a good idea to place all the technical blah blah in 1 set of square brackets for Plex to ignore that information – though I don’t think this has anything to do with your particular issue.

If none of the above show any sign of your movie, you might need to dig a bit in your server logs.

It was #1.

I don’t know why, but the permissions in Synology for this file (not the folder) was missing one usergroup. Very strange.

If anyone has ideas how to troubleshoot why that happened I would be grateful!

Permissions on Synology can be weird.

Folder permissions can be fine but the file permissions underneath (specifically the ACLs) can be messed up.

I recommend scrolling down through here (Syno FAQ).
Near the bottom I show about granting permissions on the DSM side.
