Android app stops after short streaming (LIVE TV & DVR)

Suspecting last Android App update - pretty often LIVE TV & DVR plays for about 3-4 minutes then stops and shows loading sign, sometimes also showing message:

It seems like it is timing out for some reason.

My mobile phone is connected to WiFi locally at home. No issues playing same channels from browser on my PC.

I just added a second MPS to my account (in my RV). Since then, Live TV & DVR on my original PMS stops and displays the buffering symbol after just a few minutes of watching a particular channel. I am using an HDHomerun Connect Quattro, my original MPS is running on a Synology DS218+ and I am streaming through a new Fire stick 4K. I have restarted the server and rebooted the NAS several times, and checked all settings to the extent of my understanding, but the problem persists. Please Help !!

I am having the same issue on my Fire tablet 8 10th gen. I have fixed the issue on my fire tv stick by turning off the transcode interlaced setting. I do not have this setting on the fire tablet and PMS is transcoding and it just times out after 3-4 minutes. Everything seems fine on direct play its only when it is transcoding it seems to stop for no obvious reason. Any thoughts or advice greatfully received.

I’m having the exact same issue, it seems to be related to direct playing as well, if I turn off EIA_608 subtitles, the shows direct plays on my new Chromecast with Google TV, making it works perfectly. I’ve tried every setting to turn off captions by default, but nothing seems to work! I think we are in the same boat here, I hope Plex can come out with some sort of fix.

I have recently been having an issue on my phone whereby after a minute or so the player simply stops and returns to the homepage. Tried is stood next to my router and I don’t have the same problems on my firestick. Does anybody have any ideas?

Update I am not sure what I have done I changed the transcode settings on my server which didn’t work but when I changed them back to the standard settings it now works. I have been watching TV on my Fire tablet for 2 hours or more. I will keep an eye on things but maybe something in the settings became corrupt or something and this reset it.

Another update

Although I have not changed any of the settings it will not now play live TV dvr past 3 minutes or so. I am convinced it is something to do with the kindle fire app/Google app. As when I log into my account through the browser it will play fine just not through the app.

I suspect an player update. Wifi streaming and only Wifi streaming stopped when using LiveTV/DVR. Same playback files run fine on the wired portion of my LAN. Plex content such as Plex Movies stream over wifi. If I try to any wireless streaming from Plex/LiveTV I get a brief still picture, then the buffering cursor and then an error dialog:

Live Channels from my HDHomerun stream without any issues to my wifi connected devices. I don’t suspect any settings for my LAN. I have restarted everything connected to my LAN. PMS is running on an nVidia Shield.

My PMS logs from the Shield. I did notice when I set H.264 codec to 4.0 I get one device to play a recorded video. Switch back to 5.2(Recommended) and all wifi attached devices fail during playback. Also, when I re-install the Plex app on my phone and invoke a playback of a recorded file a very short-lived dialog pops up once, saying: ‘upgrade player’.

I fixed my Live TV/DVR wifi playback problem by going into PMS Settings and there is an option to select Use New Player (ON/OFF). Picking the OFF option immediately fixed my problem.

I still had problems and kept researching and google put me back at the Plex Forums. I think the real fix is configuring the options for your router. I found posts for the AT&T fiber-optic modem. This discussion was rigging ‘port forwarding’.

Plex forums – port forwarding for Arris BGW210

After I tried the example to port forwarding I could see each device can have its own custom streaming channel and bit rate. I had to determine what the PMS device was from studying Attached Devices within the router log-in page. During router network setup I could make a custom rule for maximum upload bits. Afterwards Plex can adjust my video playback for optimal video to wifi connected devices.

Port forwarding is the back-end of this problem. The front-end is the Client software, Plex will keep a better database of your files if you clean up ‘Authorized Devices’ in Settings. Be careful and thoughtful about tossing older Device configurations represented as tiles. It is here that Plex ties together Resume time for partially played video, which device is part of the sharing group, icon graphics for movies/videos, labels and deleted videos. DON’T delete any Authorized Device that is less than 2 months old. I could see this happening because one Device I deleted brought back a bunch of movies that had been deleted a long time ago. IMHO, the user can be clicking on a zombie file that doesn’t have all the current attributes of being played or deleted. Plex cleans up the database at night so expect the return of the usual desktop with all the metadata corrected the next day.
