Bug with clicking actors/media libraries listings when looking at movie info?

Your database may have revealed the issue. Sounds very similar to the issue being reported here. Let me get some more eyes on this to see what the best path forward is.

ok, good we’re getting somewhere! and yes i know my datrabase is huge and yes I have that many things in my collection. Is i t safe to remove my database from my google drive?

edit, i removed the share link to my database, it’s still on my drive so if you need me to share it and give you a link again let me know

has anyone looked at my stuff and maybe suggested a fix for me to upgrade my server with positive results?

Yes. We’ve found a couple edge case issues that seem create a similar pattern to what you’re observing. We’ve had a potential fix but had to rethink it due to another issue being observed during testing. Once I have something solid to report back, I will.

Can you confirm that you have Optimized your Database and Cleaned your Bundles?

yes, of course I have done both. what I sent you was after all that.
Yes I know my library is huge, i have over half a petabyte for my family and 2 friends.

I’m wondering if your database would benefit from running this DB repair tool. There is a Windows BAT file for Windows systems which runs a preset sequence (same functions) once PMS is stopped.

running the dbrepair-windows.bat now, will let you know what happens

no, it still wont see my library in search or actors credits. with the latest windows server or beta server

perhaps it has something to do with the sheer amount of stuff I have and the later versions of plex don’t like 50,000+ items (combined from all my libraries)
cause now I rebuilt the database it said complete and moved it and i reinstalled the new and beta versions with the same results
if i go back to PlexMediaServer-1.32.5.7516-8f4248874-x86_64 it works fine for searching and actor credits, anything after that it either wont see searches or actor credits for my server

Are you only seeing this issue on Web and Plex for Desktop apps or are search and actor credit page issues happening on any app with shared access to your server?

windows app, web app (direct ON the server) and android app.

should I update to the server that just came out this morning that says it works with 1.51 databases? I’m kinda scared since it says there’s no going back if you upgrade

The release notes states:

PLEASE NOTE : This version makes changes to the database which will make it compatible only with server versions 1.31.2 or higher (released March 14). You will not be able to use your database on Plex Media Server versions lower than this after this update.

You should be safe since your golden release is 1.32.5. I’ve been rolling back and forth between 1.32.8 and 1.40.0 on various host OSs if that gives you any comfort.

Think this will fix my problem? I’ll try it when i get home but I’m out for the next couple hours

for ■■■■■ and giggles, before i upgrade, i’m backing up %localappdata% plex and plex media server so as i expect when things go south, i have my 2 MILLION files backed up

no that new version didnt work
it doesnt even show my server as having anything, it just shows the ones that i share with
it’s like each server version gets worse and worse
this one wouldn’t even show my movies and i had to do a system restore,
this is getting aggravating. I have the entire plex server and plex folders backed up (with like 2 million files) from, %localappdata%
do you want me to zip them and let you look at those and maybe you can see whats going on with that?

Still broken here, I’m wondering if it may have something to do with one of the people who is sharing libraries with me cause I can’t stream from him, I always get a “you have too many active streams” error and I have nothing open, anywhere with him but I can download from him since he has downloads enabled. And that happens with his server on any client too.
If he has something wrong or is running a outdated version causing this error, would that mess up searching on my end? I’d remove him to test it but I dont have his email to ask him if he can help me, and since I dont think you can message users I don’t know what to do about that.

But do you think something like that could be messing me up when I upgrade server versions?

Edit, I found his email through my token and xml, so i emailed him asking what server version he’s on and if he can reboot it. I mean I literally cant think of why the metadata wont show my server after 1.32.5.7615 still

I don’t quite see it that way, and I don’t believe this is a unique issue applicable only to us. The limited reports on this matter in the forums may be because the general user base might not heavily utilize this feature, or they might not be fully aware of the problem. It’s possible they don’t find it critical or haven’t encountered it altogether.

Moreover, this issue isn’t consistently present; sometimes it shows, and sometimes it doesn’t. The display completeness varies, and the situation differs when opening on PC/MAC, web, or mobile. There are instances with problems and times without, making it likely that most users wouldn’t notice the issue.

My experience is that this issue hasn’t been completely resolved, but the frequency of occurrences seems to have decreased. Just now, I extensively tested different actors, and for the most part, they showed my library. However, there were a few instances where the display was incomplete, and in a few cases, my library wasn’t shown at all. In summary, the problem persists.

Additionally, there are numerous reports on the forum about movies with edition information not being displayed in Discover. However, from my perspective, their issue is essentially the same as ours and is not related to the edition.

@Commodore1581 If you want to try something a bit more dramatic using anything above 1.32.5, you could test having a fresh Database.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases
  3. Rename your current com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to something like com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-backup-somethingmeaningful
  4. Start PMS
  5. All your libraries will be gone, recreate your Movies library
    • Disable Credit Detection
    • Disable Cinema Trailers
    • Disable Find extras
    • Disable video preview thumbnails
  6. Let the library activities settle (disabling the above should help make this go faster)
  7. Test the issue with Search and Discover Credit pages
  8. Report back

Restore:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Rename the newly created com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to something like com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-backup-onelibrarytest or remove it
  3. Rename the previously renamed com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-backup-somethingmeaningful back to com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
  4. Start PMS
  5. Confirm libraries are restored

One possible root cause is that the DB is bloated and slow, possibly due to a similar issue I pointed out here and is timing out or clients are giving up and moving on because the DB is slow. When you are going back after failing to see your PMS availability, the initial call is refreshed or finally finished and you then see the availability. A new fresh DB might be a possible solution but it’s the most destructive and I’ve been holding it back as an option because of that. The steps above might show us if this is the case or not.

We still have a some more fixups planned that could help with the speed of fetching title availabilities from servers when viewing a Credits page but as I mentioned here there are other pieces that need addressed first. I’ve reached out to another team member who is more familiar with our DB and performance issues but with it being the holidays I wouldn’t be expecting anything solid until after the new year.

This issue has been annoying slow to investigate and resolve but I have some hope that we’ll get this figured out. I’ll keep pushing for resolution.
