(Bug?) Wrong default audio language despite correct profile setting (web player, all apps)

Server Version: newest
Player Version: newest on all plattforms

Hello!

I have a big problem with the default languages in Plex regardless of device (web player, desktop version, ios, fire tv…)

In my Profile the default language for Audio is german (as can be seen in the picture).

All movies and shows in the library are in german and english. both audio streams are correctly identified.

Despite setting the default language to german, english is set by plex as default for every movie
and tv show. its not a problem of me manually changing it, it defaults to english for every new movie/show as well.

tried every setting and changing it back to english and german again, but the default audio is always english, have to manually change it to german.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem, tried every setting but no luck. There is also no possibility reset to factory defaults or so.

I have now restored all settings to default, does not work. The language is always english doesn’t matter what I’m choosing. Any thoughts?

You can not do much more than restore all defaults and start from beginning, but this way shows no result.

I have the same issue and just wanted to ask to and found your thread already…
My server is a Synology one and all is set up like it should.
I even set my entire Synology server from english to german just to test but still same issue, everywhere set as german audio and the series are started in english and I have to switch manually to german…

at least i know now i’m not alone now and it seems to be a bug. this was (and is) driving me crazy.

if someone need further details or a log i would be happy to help.

I have now opened a fresh new plex account and have exact the same issue! Niw way to fix this

What server version are you using?

My server is installed on a Synology NAS
PlexMediaServer-1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86_64
Just updated to this version…

And since this version you have issues? Try downgrade to stable version, 1973 is beta

I was able to fix this by logging into the plex website and setting my default in those properties. I’ve I set it to english in the plex server settings it would revert to something else after save and re-open.

Version 1.18.1.1973 here as well.

@thebadmf all people here did set it to the right language in the profile setting. it’s just getting ignored…

I have the exact same problem, seems to be related to direct play
Not a problem when remuxing a movie

For my main account et my first guest account I had no problem, but for the two more accounts that i’ve added afterwards every movie track is defaulted to english (whereas everything is set to french in settings)

And by the way we’re definitely not alone

Same here, default language is ignoring by plex.
Deleted defaults settings, and set defaults again, no luck, movies still in english instead german.

The “temporary” fix is to go back to an older Plex media server version (like v1.16.xx), login with plex web to the user session then updating to the latest Plex media server version

Going back to an old version on a NAS is not the solution…
There are now 4-5 new versions I upgraded too and still this bug isn’t solved yet :frowning:
Hope this will be done soon…

I have the same problem but “only” for local users different from the admin user. For the admin all settings work like a charm. Now, my wife uses my account to avoid changing the language for every tv-show episode manually. But this can not be the final solution?!

What about the Plex Team? Are you working on it @emilybersin @StSimm1 @chrisallen ?

Version 1.18.2.2058

I have the EXACT same problem, all my users have FRENCH to their profile, but the movie start in english. I created a new test account for testing purpose, SAME bug, what the hell. It drive my crazy … I imagine Plex won’t fix that, like hundred of major bugs.

EDIT: Ok guys, I just opened the database and guess what happen when you change your prefered audio track? NOTHING! lol I have updated the audio track to DEUTCH on my test account and the database KEEP the value to EN. What the hell?

Have fun:

Any update? I have also the same issue and it is quite bad for the kids which are not geek and would not change the language each time.

The fix is made and is currently in the release pipeline.
Until then, you have 2 workarounds:

  • you can downgrade to v1.16, make the adjustment again, then upgrade again
  • edit the Plex database directly, as shown in the liked threads
