i can provide debug logs, but i really want to solve this issue
1 - computer is connected hard wired lan
2- my stream is fine in my network
3 all my friends are getting 320p resolution, and cant fix, i suspect they are on relay because i need to do port forward?
in my remote access i removed the check box and now it says
Not available outside your network
Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network
should i check the box and specify port? but it doesnt solve the issue as they sill only get 320p
i guess what i want to is solve this for once and for all so it plays at max quality for anyone streaming my content
hey your amazing, thanks for helping, so i spoke to isp, i went through my EERO app which is the router and i assigned a static IP, so that is done i set the static ip to the DESKTOP computer that has the plex. so now it says:Fully accessible outside your network
BUT my remote access keeps going into the red in the settings, i clicked manually specify post and i can use any number here or does it have to be a specific port number?
also
under the ip it shows a private ip ( this is the static ip i set ) and what is the public ip for?
The public IP should be the WAN IP address of your router – that’s the IP address of your router to the outside world.
Use that option if you have created a manual port forward on your router.
That’s a feature of many routers that allows requests to that public port from the outside to be passed on to a specific device in your home network.
As a reference… consider router to be a post office that’s linked to a specific zip code (=your router’s public IP address). Consider your port forward to be a post office mailbox – by (a) having one and (b) giving the mailbox number to somebody, they can directly address that mailbox to get their letter to you.
The internal ip is the ip of your Windows machine with the server
To keep things simple just use port 32400 for the internal and external port
32400 is what you put in the “manually specified public port” inside of the Plex settings
thanks so how how do change the WAN Ip, i see the private one as my static one. i understand what you are explaining i just dont know how to make it work. basically the public and the private ip are different,. all i want is for anyone using my library to get full resolution is there any other steps im missing or anything else i can show you to solve this?
i thought it would fix the issue but when i went down to the tv is set to 320p and when i select play orginal quality it keeps reverting back to 320 im assuming cause its using relay?
you don’t have to assume – while playing the video on your TV, check for the Now Playing tile on your server’s dashboard. If expanded, each playback should display if the stream is Local, Remote or Indirect (=using a relay).
As for your public IP – you cannot change that and you don’t have to… it’s assigned to your router by the ISP. You can only assign / reserve IPs inside your home network.
If you’re having trouble with the remote access setup – there’s a few important checks:
Does the public IP recognized by Plex (as displayed in the remote access settings) match the public IP address of your router?
Is the public IP address of your router a publicly routable IPv4 address? – if you’re not sure what that means, you can paste the first two segments of the public IP (e.g. if the public IP is listed as 234.12.25.19 you could share 234.12.xxx.xxx)
Verify in your router settings if there’s actually a manual port forward… for simplicity, use a port other than 32400 – e.g. 33400 – can you see the published port from outside your home network? – you can check that e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org
There’s more checks in “The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting” post linked by JaysPlex7 – but lets start with the 3 above.
right now im on phone with isp, they just set it to tcp and udp now they reset to just tcp port forward, and they opened the port i provided, but im still getting 320p
Firewall could be blocking your content/accessibility – temporarily disabling it and re-testing your connection should confirm/eliminate that.
If you’re on it… what network profile have you assigned to your Windows setup (private or public)? Setting it to public can be problematic because that’ll make Windows prevent/block certain communication too.
If you cannot even see the public port from your port forward from outside your home network, that usually implies there’s something wrong / blocking between “the internet” and your router (incl. that endpoint, e.g. a bad port forward configuration).
so i did check and no it says it doenst see it, my isp opened the port, and i have static ip. still says this Error: I could not see your service on ip etc…
im thinking maybe eset firewall? thanks for helping, its been an issue for a while so now decided its time to fix for once and for all
Tom so I’ve done all my last checks and based on what I’m seeing people can access, so I have basically four people in my family accessing my server two of them are able to get everything in the original resolution and the three others can only see 320 P
So I guess my main question here is this a problem coming from my end or is it a problem on there side? Where can they change the quality settings because they’ve tried to put it at maximum and it keeps reverting back to 320
But I have three other people who are seeing everything in full resolution, so I’m really confused here not sure what to do
