Collections no longer appearing on tab on older servers

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592
Player Version#: 7.25.1.14216

I’m not sure exactly when, but I seem to no longer be able to view my Collections tab on the Fire TV app. I’m just getting “No items to display” on that tab now, but I have over a dozen movie collections made. It was working last month at least, so I want to say it’s the newest Fire TV client this started on.

If the particular Collection is set to display in the main Library view I can still reach it that way, but any Collections I have set to be hidden are now inaccessible on my Fire Stick 4K. The Collections still show up on the other clients I use (LG webOS, PMP, web page). I’m seeing what looks like someone else with the same issue here. Also maybe this issue is the same since it’s for Android TV.

I happen to have a second Plex server running for testing purposes:
Server Version#: 1.18.3.2129

I set up a couple collections on it to check, and they are appearing fine with the Fire TV app. So it’s only an issue on the older 1.16 server – which I notice is the same branch those other two posters are using.

I seem to be unable to update. Error reads: This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page.

I can’t even find a Default Apps Settings page.

Can anyone advise? There is no update for NAS drive, but the app on my laptop won’t update.

Please take your updating issue to another thread and stop polluting my bug report with it.

Wow. I thought you were responding to my thread. What an incredibly rude post.

sounds like the updated client interfaces my be your issue…
Try the web client and see if it has the problem…
If so then try the embedded client in that version of PMS and see if you still have the problem, if not then it that the current client isn’t compatible with the older PMS…

to get to the embedded client…
on the older PMS use the ipaddress:32400/web in the browser.

I’m sorry you mistook my thread for yours. Mine has a different title and is in a different section of the forum. I’m only asking you not mix my issue with – it sounds like installing an update on your Synology? I’m not using a Synology as a server, and the Collections issue isn’t a problem on the server side.

If I may be so bold, even if you made that post on your own thread it would considered offtopic.

Yeah, it does look to be the new Fire TV client. Probably the most-recent one where they added the new player (not that the player has anything to do with the navigation interface). I notice the Android TV issue I linked was for client 7.24, but I can’t remember if the Fire Stick ever got that one. I think the published Amazon app store client jumped from 7.21 right to 7.25.

Edit: No, it went from 7.23 to 7.25, because 7.23 was the release that fixed AAC 5.1 playback.

The web client was what I was working on yesterday, as I was adding background images to my collections, it’s certainly good. The Collections tab still works properly on Plex Media Player (beta) and the LG TV app, and that at has been updated not that long ago as well. I haven’t been using the Fire Stick much lately which is why I can’t pin down exactly when it started.

I remembered I had another Fire Stick 4K I only hook up occasionally. Connected it now and checked and, yes, it still has an older version of the Plex app on it.

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592
Player Version#: 7.23.0.13018

Collections tab working fine with this older app. Only an issue on current 7.25 app.

The first step in the bug report is to have a bug.

…in my 725 FireTV App Collections are working fine - all my collections are appearing normally - in the library, under the tab - whatever.

Your ‘Bug’ may just be User Error.
What is the Library Setting for Collections (Library/Edit/Advanced)?
What are the Collection Settings (Edit a Collection/Advanced)?

If there is ANYONE in the Plexiverse that would notice if Collections stopped working suddenly - it would be me - I am actually trying to break Collections, but so far, no matter how hard I abuse them - they just keep working:

…and yet - all seems well on the latest version of my FireTV App that pretty much looks exactly like PWeb’s Display above (oh, the FireTV Plex App has issues galore - but Collections ain’t one of them).

Let’s see if @nx6 wants to be rude to me - and if not, perhaps he can work on his apology to you - 'cause his last one sucked.

Hey, Juice.

Would you like to share what server version you’re running?

The first step in getting involved in a preexisting conversation, is to have read the existing posts carefully. You didn’t do this it appears.

I’m now going to dismantle your entire post.

Replying without reading the first post fully. :+1:

  1. This preference is a server-side preference. Its value impacts all client devices. So something set wrong here cannot impact the display on only one type of device (unless there is another bug with that one device – see: flattening single season TV shows). To be a settings mistake by me, it would need to be settings on the client app itself.

As I said in the first post of this topic:

and in a later post:

Yup. Not a server setting…
But here’s the real kicker:

  1. The settings you are referencing are for Collecton display on the Library tab.

This controls whether you see a Collection and all its items in the Library listings, just the Collection itself (items hidden), or only the items (Collection not visible on main Library screen). I am posting here about the absence of collections on the Collections tab at the top, and
this setting has nothing to do with that tab of the client interface. Collections always display on that tab – I can confirm it even shows collections that have no items! So this whole point of your reply is a big, fat red herring.

  1. As I said in my most recent reply:

If the issue was a problem with server settings, logically I could not change the behavior of the issue simply by changing to an earlier version of the same client. :stuck_out_tongue:

This setting only serves to allow the user to override the default Collection behavior for the Library. All three of my previous points apply same here. [redherring.jpg]

Are you familiar with the term “thread hijacking”? It’s when someone posts a thread on a specific topic and someone else comes in and replies, diverting the conversation into an entirely unrelated direction. It’s literally what @amy_apricotlearningonline_co_uk did here.

I posted a topic on a specific problem on a specific Plex client app, with comparisons to other client apps, an A-B comparison to another server version, and even searched the forum for other posts on the topic and linked to them. That’s a boatload more effort than many other people go to here, and Amy’s reply took the conversation into “I seem to be unable to update this thing.” She never said what it was, or what platform it was for, which will only prompt replies from other people asking for clarification and assistance, further taking the thread away from its topic. She’s adding noise into the conversation (even if it even was only two posts at that point). The only reason she was even here is because I linked to her thread where she appeared to be having the same problem – which only helps her in this case. I could have replied to her thread, but she posted in the Smart TV section, so I assumed she is using an actual Fire TV television and it would not have been correct to add my Fire Stick issue to it. Just like I did not reply to the Android app thread I linked. Even though the FireTV app and the Android app are close to the same, they are not And as I said before:

…and it would have been! Even if she had been correct, and I had been replying to her back on her topic, her new post about the updating should be moved to a separate thread regardless, because it’s for a new issue!

TL/DR: In your rush to be all chivalrous with your post you seem to have missed the person being rude was her.

Clearly I underestimated how deeply your issues go, but here’s my parting shot:

Upgrade to a version that works - if the old version doesn’t - or deal with any issues you have.

Possible responses to this [double-irony edition]:

  1. “Upgrading” the Fire TV clients is how this all started.
  2. Called PMS 1.18 “a version that works” – I haven’t seen so many posts about issues since the 1.15 branch debuted.

Kinda underwhelmed by your response, but I can understand. It’s a bit hard to come back from “I didn’t even read the first post of this thread, and my questions show I have no understanding of the settings I am asking about”.

I’ve only found one other topic about this Collection error: No Items to Display - Firestick/SmartTV. I’m having the same problem and wanted to see if you or anyone else reading this thread have gotten anywhere with this? This also happened to me with the update OP mentions and figured it would be fixed eventually, but it’s been almost three months with no word.

It doesn’t effect me anymore, but it never actually got resolved. I posted an unrelated issue involving another client and the response I got was pretty much “your server is old, too bad”. Since I didn’t have the option to roll back that client like I could the Fire TV client, I went ahead and upgraded my server. I’m now on server version 1.18.8.2468 and using Fire TV client version 1.27.something. This Collections problem is now gone for me.

I wouldn’t expect a fix. It’s clear Plex would rather users having this issue just upgrade their servers since they don’t have to do anything then.

I haven’t gotten anywhere. It’s still howing No Items to Display. Most annoying!

Ok now that things have settled… I’m assume your problem is the same as the title.
I looked through all the post and couldn’t find what Version of PMS your running on what OS, or the client that your having the problem with and it’s version.
Does it work with any client?

Im using NAS drive server, if that helps. It still works fine on my ipad, but no longer on my firestick. So, I’m not sure what accounts for it.

FireStick had issue mainly with the ExoPlayer that caused a lot of problems not just with the Plex Client…
The Plex Client had and still has issues but Play back on the latest beta release seems to be working correctly.
It still has navigation and other issues like not updating the watch status for the items displayed… I did not see any collection issues.
I’m using PMS Version 1.18.6.2368
Fire TV 4k stick with the latest OS update and
Plex Client Version kepler-armv7a-amazon-fireExo-7.30.0.16311-29f7de79
That is available only from the Plex Website and has to be side loaded to the fire stick.
Beta’s require a Plex Pass to access. (Plex could release it for all to side load)
Once Plex has a Beta that they want to release on Amazon it has to go through Amazon and that can take weeks before it’s Available to all through Amazon download.

Can you help with “side load”? I’ve never heard of that before. I do have a Plex Pass. I haven’t seen any beta versions for the firestick proper. Can you advise?
