Connection to NAS

Server Version#: 4.146.0
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I disabled remote access for my NAS. I had opened the ports & got rid of the “Double Nat” but I have disabled remote access in the Plex app. Can you show me how I can get it back?

Which NAS pleas, QNAP or Synology (procedures are different for each) ?
Which models?

DS723+ Synology NAS running DSM 7.2.2.

@bunnb1

Thank you for confirming what I’m seeing on Plex.tv
I wanted to make certain there wasn’t a missing QNAP nas in play.

(I’ve removed server-qnap but will add it back if there is a qnap somewhere)

For the Syno, is it working enough that you can:

  1. Restart PMS
  2. Open it
  3. Download the server’s logs ZIP file and attach it ?

If not, given it’s been almost a month since last being seen,

Use this procedure to reclaim it and get its credentials with Plex.tv working again.

If it doesn’t reclaim (show your username when done), do the following:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Using FileStation, navigate to PlexMediaServer/AppData/ Plex Media Server
  3. Right-click LogsCompress to Logs.zip
  4. Download the ZIP file
  5. Attach it here.

Either way, I would very much like to see a log ZIP of your server

There is no QNAP NAS.
Here you go!

Multiple ways to resolve.

Step 1 - Clear the local and download again

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Use FileStation
  3. Open PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  4. Delete cert-v2.p12
  5. Start Plex
  6. Refresh the FileStation view – Confirm `cert-v2.p12 has downloaded.

If this doesn’t fix it, I will get the bigger :hammer:

I couldn’t find cert-v2.p12.
I restarted Filestation & verified that cert-v2.p12 was NOT there.

Look in the Cache folder.

Yes it is there.
Should I stop PMS before I remove the file?
Then restart PMS & verify the file is there; in the Cache folder.

I stopped PMS.
I removed the file from the Cache directory.
I restarted PMS.
I verified the file was in the Cache directory.

I have verified that the only drive/device available to the BUNNB1 user is MacBook Pro. There are no drives/devices available to the 5HJD8 user.

I reinstalled the app. It worked.

The movies worked as well. Now I have to figure out how to add TV Shows. I have some there but nothing viewable.

Verify permissions and naming/organization.

Permissions

User PlexMediaServer needs at least read-only permissions to the media files. Read-write is needed if you create optimized versions, use live tv/dvr features, etc.

  1. Login to the NAS
  2. Synology Control Panel → Shared Folder
  3. Right click on the Media folder → Edit
  4. Permissions tab → change Local Users to System Internal User
  5. For user PlexMediaServer, select Custom.
  6. Choose all Read or all Read & all Write. Administration is not needed. Done.
  7. IMPORTANT: Select the box to “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files.” Save.
  8. DSM will set the permissions (may take a minute or two). Save.

Naming & Organization

Plex DocumentationYour Media

Follow Plex naming and organization requirements (what is visible in the log file looks correct).

You cannot mix movies and TV shows in the same library. If you added /volume1/Media/TV Shows to a movie library, then remove it (I cannot tell from the log file if you did this or not).

You’ll want a TV Show library with /volume1/Media/TV Shows added.

Plex should scan the tv shows and import them into the library.

This didn’t work. I followed the procedure twice to make sure. I tried setting the select the box to “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files.” but each time I checked back the box was unchecked. I saved each time.

@bunnb1

I’ve looked at your account on Plex.tv

SSL: No certificate available

Your Syno is not requesting a new certificate.

Did you delete the cert-v2.p12 file then restart ?

I did it again. I shut down PMS, I deleted the file from the Cache directory, I restarted PMS, I checked to see the cert-v2.p12 file existed. It did.

It is normal for the “Apply to this folder…” checkbox to be unchecked on that window. No need to repeat setting permissions.

So, right now, you can access the server and stream movies, but cannot add tv shows. Is this correct? Just want to make sure I understand correctly.

Is the server listed in Authorized Devices? Delete any old/outdated server entries.

If you go to Settings → Server_Name → General, does it show “server claimed by your_email_address”?

If you manually scan the TV show library, Plex does not recognize any of the shows, correct?

Can you provide a new set of log files? Maybe that will show what is happening.

  1. Stop Plex & wait one minute.
  2. Start Plex & wait three minutes to fully log the startup sequence.
  3. Stream something for ~20 seconds.
  4. Pull log files and post the entire zip file.

Yes. I can stream movies but I cannot add TV Shows.
The server is listed under the “More” menu option.
I can"t find “server claimed by your_email_address” anywhere.
I get “TV Shows” is empty message.
Creating log file.

Here you go!
Plex Media Server-3.log.zip (29.7 KB)

If you’ve not done so, synchronize the NAS with a public NTP server.

  1. Synology Control Panel → Regional Options → Time tab.
  2. Select Synchronize with Public NTP Server
  3. Pick a server from the list
  4. Update Now.
  5. You should see Status: Normal

Point an incognito / private browser window at http://192.168.1.40:32400/identity (or https if needed).

You should see a page of XML information.
Example: <MediaContainer size="0" apiVersion="1.0.0" claimed="1" ....

Does it show claimed=0 or claimed=1?

Next, point a incognito / private browser window at http://192.168.1.40:32400/web.

Can you login to the Plex server?

If yes, click on the wrench icon in the upper right corner (Settings).

Below the Plex Web settings (General/Quality/Player), you should see your server name, then additional settings.

If you can reach the server settings. Select General.

If the server is claimed, you should see “server claimed by …”

If the server is unclaimed, you should see a “Claim” button instead of Remove.

See screenshot below.

If the server is unclaimed, try to claim it.

Regarding the log files…

Need to see all the log files, not just one.

Login to the NAS.
Stop Plex Media Server.
Using Synology File Station, navigate to the Plex Data Folder.
Right click on the Logs directory and choose Compress to Logs.zip.
Download to your Mac, then upload to the thread.
