when is it scheduled for ? How soon will you know that the recording was HD. The fact that it is scheduled as HD is probably sufficient proof - i just wanted to be absolutely sure !

Recording finishes in 5 minutes. Got a log during recording in-case it isn’t HD :slight_smile:

It appears to have recorded in HD! :smile: Only weird thing is that it’s put it as The Apprentice (IE) but had the right TV Show Title in the Recording Schedule.

The matching would be a separate issue - please raise as separate forum topic and attach screenshots / database / logs - just need to add the logs that covered time when recording ended and the filenames that got created

Just noticied something else, in the Guide when you select HD Channels Only, it shows some SD Channels.

Which is odd as in the Manage Channels on the Tuners, they aren’t marked as HD

Yes it does that - the filter view is based on actual airings resolution and not channel - so if an SD channel has an airing that has 720 and not 480 height then it would get included in the filtered view.

It was done this way because some countries do not have a channel indicator for SD / HD

But in the UK none of the non-HD channels transmit anything other than 576i - so something is badly broken anyway.

I don’t see why when you select Any for resolution, it decides to select a SD channel. If it’s available on a HD channel, people would prefer it to be recorded in HD! It’s kind of annoying to individually select HD Only for every recording.

Noted. Passed on your comment. I do not think one can assume that everyone would prefer HD if HD is available. May be there is scope for a preference. I have passed your feedback to the development team

Thanks for passing on the feedback! Just think it should be the default way it should work, maybe with an option to not prioritise HD (would only see people not prioritising if they’re low on storage)! :slight_smile:

I would actually want to prioritize SD channels because my Plex server does not apparently have processing power to handle HD channels. I’ve had a few recordings fail just because when I selected SD channel, plex would automatically choose HD instead and it won’t work. Poor thing chokes on 4K video playback too.

Which is why I’m here, looking for information. I did already find how to force recording to SD channel and if there is a successful recording of Bob the Builder tomorrow morning I’m a happy dad.

edit: forgot the actual point of my post… a SD/HD priority toggle would cater both ways I believe.

That’s a great example of when someone should have the Toggle prioritise SD over HD for all recordings. :+1:

I think in the DVR Settings, there should be a toggle for what quality to prioritise (if available) when a recording is set to Any in the Resolution box. :slight_smile:

I have this issue as well in the US. Comcast has duplicate SD channels of all the HD channels, and if I don’t select “Limit to Channel” with the HD channel, Plex always records the SD version.

Is there a bug I can track to know when a fix for this is available?

A bug was fixed very recently which should fix the problem as long as you select HD Only in the recording preference

I have version 1.14.1.5488, so I’m trying the HD Only thing now. The schedule says it’s going to record SD if I have Resolution set to “Any” and HD if I have it set to “HD Only.”

However, I don’t want to set that on all my shows. I have Stargate SG-1 set to record, but the early episodes are not in HD . I just want it to prefer HD on everything. I have “Replace lower resolution items” checked, which should tell it to prefer HD, but it still says that it will record in SD.

Another issue is that if I go to the guide and select “HD Channels Only,” it still shows all the channel. Does it think that 480p channels are HD?

Not entirely sure, seems to show all sorts of channels for me. Should only show ones that are only 720p minimum.

Hopefully we’ll get an update on this (SD/HD Priority Toggle Option) somewhen in the near future, would be really convientent to have :slight_smile:

It is being looked into and I believe the HD Only setting will be available as a setting for the DVR as well as for individual recordings. So you can set it by default for all recordings by enabling at the DVR level

If you were to enable HD Only at the DVR Level, would that prevent recordings that aren’t available in HD from recording?

If so, this might be why I’m thinking a toggle, in the DVR Settings, on what quality to priortise would be more convientent, so SD recordings will only happen when HD quality isn’t available but prioritises HD all the time!

Remove Any in Recording Settings and replace with either Prefer HD or Prefer SD depending on the toggle option in DVR Settings.

The Plex DVR Quality Prioritisation Toggle (DVR Settings) should default to HD.

If the toggle (DVR Settings) is set to HD, recording settings default would be Prefer HD
If the toggle (DVR Settings) is set to SD, recording settings default would be Prefer SD

This new system would mean only three options overall. The Resolution options for recordings would be -

  • Prefer HD or Prefer SD (depending on the toggle direction)
  • HD Only
  • SD Only

Prefer HD would prioritse HD recordings, SD as a fallback.
Prefer SD would prioritise SD recordings, HD as a fallback (maybe ideal for low storage users)
HD Only would only record HD, never SD.
SD Only would only record SD, never HD (probably for users like in this forum post with not too powerful hardware)
