DVR | General Feedback & Issues

^ This. It shouldn’t be hard to understand.

Perhaps a “Prefer HD” setting to be explcit rather than “Any” ?

Still waiting on confirmation for my first question.

I edited my comment based on your comment, would like to hear what you think. Want to push as much constructive feedback as possible! :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, it’d be nice if in the DVR Settings to have some sort of confirmation whether Plex has seen you’ve supplied a custom Comskip.ini file. At the moment you just have to assume Plex has noticed. Hope this feedback will be helpful to the team! :slightly_smiling_face:

I have passed your comments on to the development team working on the feature

Today’s beta release 1.15.6.1079 introduces a DVR level set of preferences that should help with what has been requested here

See Release Note
https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-media-server/30447/261?u=sa2000

NEW:

  • (DVR) Add Resolution , Replace lower resolution items , and Allow partial airings at DVR level with option to override at recording level.

It may not be exactly what was suggested in posts above but should help users that need a sticky default for all recordings

I’ll give it a go once my server finds it as currently nothing is appearing after pressing Check for Updates. Am keen to try it all out :slightly_smiling_face:

There was a few hours delay in the availability of the download - it should be there now. I am also keen to find out what you think of the changes. Hoping that you and others posting about it here will be pleased

Hello, my experience so far seems to be positive! A great step forward for Plex DVR having HD a priority by default! Will come back in a few days to see if my experience is still the same along with any comments/feedback

Not related, but an issue I’m having currently - `New Airings Only` - Episode from 2017 set to record

Was doing a test recording this morning, set a recording on Channel 4 (which has a HD Channel available (Channel 104)). For some reason, it’s selected the SD channel even though Prefer HD is enabled.

Before Recording.zip (23.4 MB)

image image

All my other recordings for today, with Prefer HD, are scheduled for the HD channel of Channel 5 (105) so not sure if this is related to just Channel 4 in the UK.

During Recording - Plex Media Server Logs_2019-05-20_10-17-38.zip (1.7 MB)

Just reporting back, apart from that one incident above, everything seems to be perfect with Prefer HD! Had 3, back-to-back recordings last night record on the HD channel instead of the SD channel!

Just some suggestions still for the Dev Team regarding DVR, EPG .etc

  1. In the recording priority, allow us to bulk change settings across selected, or all series recordings. Be able to change the library location, new airings or repeats, resolution .etc. Basically every setting you can do individually but just apply to either all or user-selected series. Only suggesting this as after Prefer HD was introduced, I had to go through and manually change every series from HD Only to Prefer HD and I changed some other settings too!
  2. EPG - “HD Channels Only” - Display only 720p or higher - still in the UK shows SD channels.
  3. Add Prefer SD & SD Only for users that require those options or just try to implement the toggle to change the default Prefer resolution option.

Overall, the Prefer HD option is a great step forward and I’m grateful for the Dev Team to have taken the time to implement this! Hope they are able to take my other feedback and make Plex DVR even better! If I have any other feedback, I’ll report back!

First of all, according to the database, all the airings for that episode appear to be 720 x 480 for all 3 channels it was on C4, C4HD and C4P1 so it would not have mattered - unless the gracenote data was wrong for this episode

Second, the channel appears to be the other way round to what you said - with 104 being C4 and 4 being the HD one

I need to look further into this as the logged message may be incorrect or misleading. The database does show it the way you said

Must be another GraceNote data issue as there was a noticeable difference between the channels in terms of quality as I looked at the Live Broadcast whilst the recording was happening.

It seems to be like that for most channels where the SD channel has the HD name in the brackets & vice versa. Channel 4 is the SD & 104 is HD. There’s a few more outside of these screenshots with the same naming scheme.

Thank - the brackets identifier could be a bug. I am following that up.

It does look like a gracenote data issue

I have the info captured for the EPG when i looked into the New issue earlier - so picking up one of the Kitchen Nightmares episodes in the database and they appear all as SD. And the Gracenote data does not include the "videoType": "HDTV" qualifier. I will mention this to our team but it is outside our control

I will also discuss how the case is handled where all channels show same resolution in the EPG.

Thanks for following those things up!

Yeah, didn’t think there’d be much you could do in-regards to the Gracenote data you receive.

I guess if an episode is being aired on a HD channel and an SD channel at the same time, same episode # .etc, choose the HD channel even if the EPG data shows the same resolution. Like a back-up option in-case the airing is actually HD.

Thanks again!

That is what i have been discussing with the team.
It will get reviewed in the future

Haven’t had any issues with Prefer HD. Really impressed and happy with the implementation! Just got some more feedback & issues about DVR, maybe not all are possible but just what I’d like to see if possible :slightly_smiling_face:

Not necessary, but useful if possible, in the DVR Settings - show how many tuners are in use, not only just by Plex E.G. 1 in use elsewhere, 1 in use, 1 in use, 2 in use elsewhere.

Have an icon on the recording tile to say it’s replacing a partial recording. Then a description after clicking the upcoming recording saying it’ll replace the original partial recording.

Plex Web – sometimes shows the same timeslot if two recordings are exactly the same on the same day.

Show Series & Episode on Plex Web DVR Schedule like on iOS, if there’s enough screen space. image

If DVR Devices have different amounts of channels enabled, maybe show underneath them all, which devices are missing enabled channels found on another DVR device.
Would help find out if Plex just hasn’t enabled that channel, happened to me before - even had channel/guide data in the drop down for the disabled channels. May have been after a re-tune of a tuner and a new channel was found after setting up DVR - not entirely sure though. Also, could help the user decide whether a certain tuner device needs to be re-tuned if a channel isn’t available on a certain device!

DVR Device/Tuner Priority list (maybe a sort able order on the DVR settings page – I’ve got a newer HDHomeRun that I’d prefer everything to prioritise using over other older devices I have. Mainly as it has 4 tuners, and one of the other two isn’t always reliable at times.

An option to disable LiveTV time shift so the server simply acts as a relay so loading a channel doesn’t take so long!

Something odd going on with Time Shift and Plex Media Player.

Recording in progress, client starts Live Channel viewing on same channel – possible to use only 1 tuner?

Sometimes recordings are scheduled, then disappear

Overall, I’m very impressed with the progress that’s been made to Plex DVR! Really impressed with it at the moment!
