ERROR - JobManager: child process returned: 2 (No such file or directory)

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-7000
Player Version#:

I have been running my Plex on Windows 11 on the latest 1.32.4.7195 - Plexpass version

I just bought a Synology 423+ and want to transfer my Plex instance to here. I have read a lot of guides which basically say the same thing but the most recent one I found was 3 years old so I am wondering if they are out of date because after Starting Plex back up it is getting stopped automatically with the error:

ERROR - JobManager: child process returned: 2 (No such file or directory)

I am unable to find any help topics on this but this are the steps I have done.

Installed Plex on the NAS

  • Copied all Media on the NAS
  • On Windows machine, disabled Empty Trash Automatically after ever scan and shut it down
  • Started it up, logged in and created a new server. Went to settings and disabled Empty Trash Automatically as well as Scan automatically and scan periodically
  • Shut down the Plex Server on NAS and then went and deleted the folders: Plug-in and Plug-in Support from the NAS
  • Copied over the files from Windows → Plug-In, Plug-in Support, Metadata, Media
  • Made sure plexmedia server is the owner of those files and its sub-directories
  • Start Plex - Says running and then comes back with a JSON response about its migrating the DB cool!
First time this stopped working very quickly and Service went to Manually stopped
Start service again It does actually get into the Web and I can start to do stuff but then again manually stopped.
Start service again, now it says running startup up maintenance and might go the web but again will stop

In all cases, I get the error in the Plex Tuner service log “ERROR - JobManager: child process returned: 2 (No such file or directory)”

So not sure what file or directory its expecting?

It looks like a corrupted DB file because if I just delete “com.plexapp.plugins.library.db” Plex will start fine although that means I have lost all the libraries etc

I have tried re-copying the db file over again its not corrupted because the Windows server is still working!

Is it a problem that the latest windows version is 1.32.4.7195 but the latest version for Synology is: 1.29.2.6364-7000?

Because I read make sure both servers are on the same version but I can’t I guess the DB could be built for 1.32 and wont work with 1.29?

Not sure why its complaining about a file being missing if its just a DB issue? I have also re-copied those folders over again from Windows still same issue!

I am thinking I am stuffed and I am going to lose all my metadata and watch history and all!! Arrgh!

Hope I can fix this because from all the posts Ive read this method has pretty much worked for everyone Cheers!

Please ignore this it was to do with the versions I didn’t realise I had to go and manually install the latest version. Once I did that and setup a server, unticked empty trash, shut down and then copied the files over again, it works! I can see my Libraries and now updating their locations.

Hopefully the metadata and watch history has come along with it haven’t checked yet. Do make sure you set permissions for all those 4 folders for owner to be PlexMediaServer and read and write access before starting the server up again

But basically all those guides didn’t mention ensuring plex versions are the same and if the NAS one isnt to manually update it!

@icanfly

If you manually copy files (PMS internal files) into the PlexMediaServer structure,
without knowing what to do,

it’s Going to be PAINFUL

I’ve created the Synology FAQ

Of importance to you for proper migration of PMS (the media files don’t matter) from one host to another is done here.
