Fresh install of Plex on DSM 7

Ok, Plex has been running on my Synology since DSM 5.x , taken it all the way up to current DSM 7.x. … no problems.

Plex crashed hard today. Nothing worked. None of the support or forum things worked. NONE OF THEM - not even what Plex suggested. Did multiple reinstalls and NEVER EVER got the “Unclaimed Server” piece.

Ok, uninstalled again … Removed the Plex Server from ALL the Devices. Deleted all the same files - again. Started the Server, accessed it locally (unauthorized to access server). Accessed it thru their web app (plex.tv), and it DOES login, but there is no server and the SETUP WIZARD didn’t start. It just dumped me at the home page.

In SETTINGS this is all I get down the left side (and the only way I get that is thru Plex Web … not locally. I don’t even see a way to ADD a server. How can I fix this? Or do I need to chuck Plex and use something else? REALLY FRUSTRATED.

Let’s walk through this so we’re in sync.

  1. DSM 5 → DSM 7 upgrade
  2. Plex uninstalled before the upgrade ?
  3. When you look in the Plex shared folder, do you still have `Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server and all its contents ?

@DeLasNoches

I looked at Plex.tv before responding. There is nothing registered. The old server was removed from the active list.

This is why I asked where we’re at

I don’t know if this is much help as I’m new here. But I’ve had plex on my synology NAS for the last few years and no issues what so ever. I’m on DSM 7.2.1 and it’s worked fine for me. Was using it just now too while i edit some nfo files.

Go to your synology nas ip address and check if you got the plex media server installed.

Clicking it should take you to the web version of plex.

Go to settings and Under the Plex Web settings you should see your server name and clicking it should give you server settings.

@DeLasNoches

The issue here, from what I can tell so far, is the migration to DSM 7.
Once installed and claimed, it will work as you describe.
We’re not at that point yet (per Plex.tv) and what I’m trying to learn

Accidnetally replied to you. But for them If their on Synology NAS to double check they got the application installed. That and I believe after a new install you’d have to check read /write permissions to read from the harddrives. I had that read issue when I added a harddrive that wasn’t part of my original server.

This all occurs AFTER the server is claimed and on the account.
We don’t have a claimed server yet.

1 - I have run Plex on DSM 5.x thru DSM 7.x without any issues. (so, including DSM 6.x)
2) I didn’t need to uninstall Plex thru this process - which, yes, I know is odd given DSM 7.x … for some reason Plex just still worked.
3) At one point I did … but I have since totally removed that folder structure when I tried to do it as a fresh Plex install. But I tried a lot of things previously.

I just grew tired of trying thing after thing after thing … at this point I just want Plex running even if I have to create a whole new server and link that to my account. But even after wiping everything and re-installing, I NEVER get the Setup Wizard. And as you can see i nthe pic, there is no server attached or a way to add one.

I checked … it has read/write permissions.

Sorrry, no picture … I listed the options I see in the Settings page
