Last time I tried using Plex as a DVR (in fairness, just under 3 years ago) it was a car crash:
- The EPG data was very inaccurate which caused problems with recordings (thread)
- “Prefer HD” was broken and not preferring to record episodes being shown on HD channels (post)
- “Replace lower resolution items” was broken and not replacing recorded SD episodes with exactly the same recorded HD version (post)
As a result, I was getting either:
- Recordings failing, missing, duplicated or being re-recorded multiple times
- Recordings with the wrong season, episode and show name metadata
- Two recordings of exactly the same episode in both SD and HD resolutions
Not surprisingly, the family hated it and we stopping using the DVR functionality.
Nearly three years later, have all these issues now been resolved? If not, what have you done to try and work around them?
