I was checking in to see what the progress is on fixing the issue of Plex being unable to record the second part of a movie (where the Movie has few minutes gap in the schedule for say a news bulletin)
As I have mentioned before this problem does not occur on my UK Humax PVR boxes and also software such as TVHeadend. Both record the complete movie in one file
I also note that Jellyfin software (a fork of Ebmy) gives the option of recording the movie as a series so you end up with the 2 files but at least its all recorded
I note that the PVR box uses a CRID (Content reference identifier) to manage the recordings
Channel 5 today in the UK lists A Bridge to Far as
Event CRID
WWW.FIVE.TV/V2MHD
Events
WWW.FIVE.TV/V2MHD#2
From my basic reading so long as there is a less than 3hr gap between the parts of a movie its recorded as one file
Also this forum has many references to CRID and how it works in the Humax PVR boxes hummy.tv
Im sure Plex and Gracenote must know all this stuff but thought it would be useful to post anyway
The new guide seems to be working pretty good so far on Series linking please can we urgently fix this Movie issue
As I have mentioned before this worked fine on the previous Plex/Gracenote implementation and got broke with the introduction of Tivo
To add to these points, I use a HDHomerun Connect Quatro in the UK and do not see this problem with other users of Graceenote data (NextPVR and MC2XML). I can only assume that these apps link shows together based on some timing rules or the CRID info you mentioned.
@captain_caveman2k and I have shared this problem directly with a Plex employee before Christmas and so I can report that they are aware of it and are looking into it. I will pass your CRID info onto them.
Hi
Thanks for the info I use a connect Quattro as well
I just installed a docker of NextPVR to my NAS and have it up and running and recording already
Pulled the EPG straight off the airwaves - Scheduled a couple of movies
Offered either single episode record or series record (similar to Jellyfin)
I have 2 films on Channel 5 with the gap in them today - I have set them both to record using Single option for one and series option for the other - I will see what records !!
I can tell you now that it will only record the first hour. Plex confirmed they were aware of the issue / scenario and are looking into it. I haven’t seen any acknowledgement yet that they had fixed it!
Hi
Yes it is a very long term issue
One that was not an issue in the previous implementation of Gracenote
Then became an issue with Tivo and now continues with the new Gracenote
This is not an issue with many many other PVR hardware and software
(Could you imagine if all the PVR manufactures in the world released home PVRs that did not record the whole movie - There would be quite a few unhappy consumers)
So considering its such a long term issue - Why has it not been fixed
Sorry to rant I just want the basics to work
It’s never seemed to be important enough because there is a workaround.
That though doesn’t take account of how irritating it is to manually correct the schedule across multiple channels.
Also, Plex sometimes decides to only record the second half if there is a schedule clash rather than informing that the full movie isn’t going to be recorded.
Thanks, I didn’t know about the form so I’ve filled that out now. I’ll also try to provide details here. I’m in the Minneapolis MN OTA market, using an HDHomerun tuner. Saturday Night Live airs on NBC (11.1, KAREDT). There is an older repeat episode that plays at 9PM and the current season plays at 10:30PM. The guide data is incorrect, and shows the repeat episodes with today’s date (e.g. 1/2/2021) which I’m guessing makes Plex think they are for the current season. Plex labels the repeat episode as “New”. The actual new episode at 10:30PM is labeled with the season/episode number, e.g. S46 E5. Plex does not label this episode as “New”. If I set Plex to record both New and Repeat airings, the Plex DVR only shows the 9PM repeat airing as scheduled. If I set Plex to record only New airings, the DVR says there are no upcoming episodes. If I modify the DVR recording to only record at 10:30PM, it also says there are no upcoming episodes. I don’t see a way to record the 10:30PM timeslot at all.
Hopefully in the future, Project Buffalo triangle can be offered in some type of alpha build in a separate forum for people that want to try it out when almost ready:). Glad to hear that’s being addressed finally!!
Should we be getting 2 weeks of guide data with Gracenote now? Some networks seem to be updated 2 weeks out, but others don’t. CW in the US (zip: 20171) is one network that is only showing guide data 1 week out on Gracenote, but on TiVo I get data 2 weeks out for CW. Is this a bug?
If you click through Horizontally you will find it goes out to two weeks. The problem is the drop down menu does not navigate further than one week. So it may well be a oversight.
Are scheduling working for any of you, guys? It seems is not working on my side
On the first screenshot, I’m showing the shows I’ve scheduled and it says there is no new airings, but on the other screenshots shows there are plenty of them, last ones shows a show being aired right now, but DVR isn’t recording at all.
Gotcha, then there’s a bug in the scheduling as I’m having a similar problem as @malevolent.
@johnm_ColaSC, I deleted and recreated recordings, but I seem to be getting a mismatch for at least one channel. CW in the US, zip code 20171. Gracenote says that Two Sentence Horror Stories is airing at 8 PM on 1/13, but TiVo says Stargirl is airing at that time. How do I get this fixed? Screen shots below.
My reply was actually intended to be for @malevolent but I see while on my phone it did not reply to his post but to the thread.
As far as the guide issues the employee that handles those should be looking at it I would imagine. Did you provide the lineup you are using? I see the zip code but the lineup is also needed as from your screenshot the CW does not appear to be an OTA for that zip code.
